To say that the season is not starting the way many of you who closely follow Miami Dolphins News had hoped is an understatement. The team is 1-2, and what is even worse is that they have not played well in any of these games. They came out sluggish in each game, and both the offense and defense have been extremely disappointing. The talent is on the team, however, the coaching staff seems lost in how to best use it. Something needs to be done, and done fast if they want to salvage this season, so why not start by firing the coach?
Philbin has had more than a fair shot as the Dolphins head coach, but besides not being a fan favorite, he can not seem to get his players motivated to play. When a team constantly starts a game like they are sleepwalking, then that means the coach is not doing his job, he is not getting the team motivated and ready to play.
Sure there might be plenty in the football gambling software world saying that the Dolphins do not have a good team, however, that does not mean they do not have the talent to have a good team. There is no denying that the Dolphins do have one of their most talented rosters in the last 10 years. Even though Tannehill had a bad game against Buffalo, he has not really been the problem. In addition, Landry, and Matthews have been studded at the wide receiver position, and Cameron has also been a valuable passing catching tight end. On defense, Miami has pro bowl type players in Wake, Grimes, Suh, and Jones, but unfortunately, they are not playing well as a unit.

It is not just Philbin but it is the entire staff that can not figure out how to play to their players’ strengths. The Dolphins vaunted defensive line has not been able to get any pressure on the QB’s in any of the three games. The offense refuses to even give the running game a shot. Tannehill is still running for his life when he drops back, and the coverage on passing plays has been softer than the state puff marshmallow man.
Something needs to be done, and over the course of three games, we have yet to see an improvement in this team. It is time for a drastic change, and to me, the most drastic change would be firing the head coach. Do not wait until they go 1-3 or till it gets completely out of control. My recommendation would be firing Philbin now, or at least after they cross the pond and enter their bye week. Then I would just internally promote Lazor to the head coaching position. His unit has not lived up to expectations, but he is 10 times better than Coyle, and it is too difficult bringing in a stranger off the street. To me Lazor has the tools and demeanor to be a head coach in this league, so why not give him a shot now, and see if he can handle the job. Worst case, he does just as bad as Philbin, and then we have to search for a new head coach after this season.
Even if Philbin can miraculously right the ship, it is not like we as Miami Dolphin News wants him to come back next season. Stephen Ross has been more than patient, but now he must make a drastic move to try to at least bring some hope back to this season, and franchise.
