Phins Get The Job Done

week1postweb

The Dolphins came away with their first victory of the season on the road. It certainly was not a pretty game, but both the offense and the defense were able to close out this game in the fourth quarter. It was a gritty performance, spearheaded from the feisty Jarvis Landry, but if Miami wants to continue to keep pace in the ultra competitive AFC East they will need to get better…and fast!

Jarvis Landry was an absolute beast, and on one play where three Washington Redskin defenders were trying to strip the ball from him, he was able to keep fighting and even move the pile for a first down. Then with just over 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter Landry took a punt to the house for a 69 yards touchdown and Miami’s first lead of the game, which they made sure they did not squander.

What was very disturbing was that Miami once again played a horrible first quarter. On defense they luckily only gave up 3 points, but they could not get off the field. Washington was able to have their way with Miami on the ground, and Cousins was able to connect on third and longs. On offense they went three and out to start the game and could not get any momentum moving the ball, until they fell behind 10 points with less than 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. For some reason, as soon as Miami went down 0-10, the players and coaching staff woke up, and Tannehill quickly led the offense down the field for an 80 yard touchdown drive in 9 plays and 1:22.

In the second half the Dolphins got some help from the Redskins, who mentally fell apart and where committing penalties almost on every play. As much as Miami Dolphins news fans do not like Philbin, it was clear that the Dolphins were much more disciplined then Redskins, which directly stems from coaching.

The Dolphins won the turnover battle, but were out sacked 3-1, and one of those sacks caused Tannehill to cough up the ball, which was the ‘Phins lone turnover. It was a sloppy start for the Miami, but most football gambling fans would agree that the team showed a lot of heart coming back from a 10-0 deficit late in the first half.

On a side note it will be worthy keep an eye on Miami’s two key players that were injured in the game: Brandon Albert and Dion Sims. It was good to see them actually get up on their own power, but those are two important players to this team, and the ‘Phins are definitely better with these two players in the lineup.

Next up are the Jacksonville Jaguars, which again is a team that on paper we should beat, but it is not going to be a walk in the park, especially on the road. What were the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans thoughts and reactions on this first game?
