Phins HC Front Runner: Mike McDaniel

Mike McDaniel looks to all but be the Dolphins news HC

As other teams have locked down their next new head coach such as the New York Giants signing Brian Daboll and Vegas Raiders Josh McDaniel’s, the Dolphins are ‘still patiently’ going through their options. Jim Harbaugh went back the Michigan, Pederson the Jags, and no Jim Caldwell interview planned. So, it looks like Ross is going green again with Kellen Moore or Mike McDaniel.

HC McDaniel… All but Done

The pay per head sites are betting the job is already all but been given to 49ers Offensive Coordinator Mike McDaniel, who spent three years as the 49ers run game coordinator. The 49ers even hired Anthony Lynn in what appears to be the imminent hiring of McDaniel.

This past season McDaniel was made the offensive coordinator. He has done a terrific job with Deebo Samuel and one would imagine he can utilize Waddle in similar ways and help to really tap into his incredible speed that this past coaching unit was unable to truly unleash.

In addition, McDaniel is clearly an offensive minded coach, which might be a refreshing change for Miami because they have definitely struggled on the offensive side of the ball the last 3 seasons under Flores.  This could be exactly what Tua needs! However, Tua will need to learn a completely new offense that’s hopefully tailored to his strengths.  Considering Miami’s offense looked lost in the beginning of the season and never truly clicked, having an offensive guru like McDaniel could be just what that doctor ordered to get that side of the ball playing better and more consistently.

Same ole’ or what the doctor ordered

There has also been talk that Miami wants to keep most of their defensive coaches and they are looking for a head coach that would agree to this. Miami’s defense did play extremely well in the second half of the season. However, there are conflicting reports if this was due to Boyer or Flores being more involved in the defensive play calling. Even though it is not normal to hire a new head coach and then force coordinators on him, I wouldn’t mind keeping Boyer and keeping things the same on that side of the ball.

So, if that is true and McDaniel is open to keeping the Defensive coaches and scheme around, this might be a good fit for Miami. They can totally revamp the offensive playbook, which most Miami Dolphins News fans wouldn’t mind, but at the same time keep that same aggressive mind set on defense in place.

With Kellen Moore interviewing today, Phins should secure their next head coach in a couple of days.  Maybe with a lot of luck, things can finally work out for Miami.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about McDaniel as Miami’s next head coach?
