Phins in Spain & McKenzie Stays!

The Miami Dolphins must rebound this season for the sake of their fan’s sanity, and they’ll need every edge to make it happen. To say it will be critical to have an excellent Free Agency and draft is an understatement. This season though has been given a curveball already with a home game moved overseas to Madrid Spain and maybe the scheduled moved to 18 games. Spain is locked in, and the extra game is in play.

On the plus and minus side, Miami will retain quarterback coach Darrell Bevell and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. They’ll also retain senior personnel executive Reggie McKenzie because the Titans hired the Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi to be their GM. While I like keeping McKenzie, getting two 3rd Round picks if he had been hired by the Titans, I like a lot more because we need every roll of the dice we can get!

The 2025 Season has all their leaders

There are no excuses this year that can be pinned on a lack of continuity with everyone returning, like it or not. I’m in the ‘not’ category because I thought at the very least Grier should have been canned and Marvin Allen or Reggie McKenzie becoming the GM. But owner Stephen Ross is more than happy to run it all back. How long will he continue with this crew? 2025? 2026? Forever? I don’t know, but at least we know the players and they’ll be together. So, whatever happens at least you can bet with the best pay per head there are no excuses.

The tough part of 18 games, whenever it comes is on the roster construction. Deep teams will have a much better chance to succeed and top-heavy teams with peak talent and thin roster a much harder time. Given the Dolphins are the later this isn’t good. The great news for Phins fans is an 18-game schedule will make repeating the Perfect Season much harder. At this stage of being a Dolphins fan, I’ll take that and smile.

Spain makes 2025 more challenging

Miami’s road games seem the easier lineup compared to the home game teams. This is why I hate losing a home game to traveling abroad. NFL teams are all about routine and this is one reason why home games create an edge. Obviously, the sun and heat are another for us. Traveling abroad takes this advantage away, and again, we need every advantage we can get to return to the postseason. But in the end, it is what it is, and Ross said he was very happy. I wished I was very happy about it.

Well maybe we’ll draft up a storm and take the win in Spain. Maybe? Go Phins!!!
