Phins Last, Last, LAST Chance vs Browns!

The Miami Dolphins face the Cleveland Browns this Sunday with terrible conditions expected of rain and strong gusts. Both teams are 1–5 on the season, so this is a do or die game. Really the odds are terrible that either will even be mediocre this season, but a win here would create some hope. But there is mounting pressure on both regimes to win, a lose here could end more than the 2025 Season.

For Miami, questions swirl around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s recent competency, media blunders, and chemistry within the locker room. The same can also be said of Head Coach Mike McDaniel. So, the core of this regime is teetering on the end of their careers in South Florida.

All a win really does is keep this season, Tua and McDaniel’s career on life support, but for them it’s better than pulling the plug.

Cellar Dwellers Fighting for Pecking Order

An intriguing note: This game features a rare left‐handed quarterback duel — Tua Tagovailoa vs. Dillon Gabriel — marking one of the few such matchups in NFL history. With Deshaun Watson out (recovering from injury), the Browns have turned to rookie Dillon Gabriel under center. Early returns have been mixed, but Gabriel isn’t facing extra pressure like Tua, and he’ll be backed Cleveland’s running game.

While the Browns rushing attack is poor averaging only 90 yards per game (29th), rookie Quinshon Judkins is a hard runner, the Browns offensive line is pretty good. The key for them is they are facing the Dolphins league’s worst run defense giving up 160 yards per game and 192 yards over their last 3 game.

The current forecast is 76% chance of rain throughout the game, wind around 24MPH, and gusts of 17MPH, so you can bet with the best pay per head that it this isn’t looking good for the Dolphins. Given Miami’s poor rush attack of 91 yards per game (28th), the wind affecting Tua limited arm strength, and the Browns 3rd best run defense of 80 YPG, this is a terrible setting for the Dolphins.

One tiny caveat: defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. has missed time due to multiple surgeries and is listed as questionable. But given how bad our offensive line is, I don’t think it will make much of a difference.

Running the Ball & Stopping the Run WILL Decide the Game

Both the Phins and Browns must stablish the run early because even limited gains will help control tempo. This will test McDaniel’s soft nature to throw the football and abandon the run or rely on running outside. The rain will make it tough to cut and make inside runs easier because they are more direct. The Browns will run the ball inside, I expect Miami too, but McDaniel will probably abandon it quickly given his history.

If forecast holds, expect a muddy, low-scoring contest with passing efficiency depressed, and the kicking / punting game becomes fraught with risk. Physicality will be king, and the 2025 Dolphins don’t have much of that at all. Add it all together: a messy game, Browns playing on home field, their defensive strength against the run, and Miami’s internal turmoil, Phins lose a grind it out game and fall to 1-6.

Guess we’ll see though.

What comes after that is anyone’s guess.
