Phins “O” Coaches: ‘King With No Clothes’

Staff Phins offensive staff was the king with no clothes

The disastrous performance against the Buffalo Bills came like an unexpected Tsunami on the Miami Dolphins 2021 Season washing away much of the hope built up. BUT, for now, forget all the talk churning up about this offensive lineman or that offensive lineman being the reason for the beat down by the Bills. The film is clear: The driving force behind this debacle is the Phins offensive coaching staff. The reality is the Bills turned this new group of coaches into the ‘Kings with no clothes. We saw strong hints of their issues up in New England, but when they decided to double down against the Bills their flaws were clearly exposed for all to see.

Is this issue a lack of experience, lack of aptitude, or both? I don’t have a clue as to why. The film is clear though on the ‘is’ part. How to Become a Bookie: A Quick Guide.

Phins OC merry-go-round feels like Russian roulette

This offense is terrible at the presnap battle in every way… and that starts with their teachings and the core of their system. Well, terrible might be the wrong word… nonexistent feels the better fit. There is little to no communication, recognition, or adjustments. The Miami offense comes to the line of scrimmage in a robotic fashion and calls the Mike and sends players in motion, seemingly oblivious to the defensive setup and moves. This far too often lets the defense take away the primary asset of the offense: the initiative to dictate the situation.

The Bills saw an obvious flaw and rammed that failure down the Phins’ throats.

But, you can bet with the best pay per head payment that this huge presnap failure is just one symptom of a system that appears broken at its core. The leaders and creators of this system thrust a young QB into bearing the burden of an inflexible, pass-heavy scheme with too many one-read options, no support in run play calls, and little protection.

Brian Flores fired Chad O’Shea because players thought it was too complex. Well, simple is as simple does.

Tua’s first sack crystalizes all that is wrong

The first sack on Tua shows the fundamental flaws in the teaching and implementation of this new system.

Below is a film study of that play and the handful of other plays leading up to Tua’s exit. I talk slow, so if you want to just see the film it starts at the 7-minute mark. 5 rewarding reasons to become a bookie.

The film clearly shows in that 1st snap that the offensive line doesn’t communicate, Tua doesn’t recognize what is happening presnap, and the OC is tone-deaf to what these players need to succeed. But, ‘other than that how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?’

Sadly, as the other plays rolling on, these are just some of the fundamental flaws.

Where does this 2021 offense go now?

The Bills came out Week 1 of the 2021 Season pass-happy and got beat. They learned from their mistakes, flipped the script, adapted in a week, and ran the ball to bring balance to their offense. Brian Daboll though is a very talented and experienced offensive coordinator humble enough not to double down. The Complete Guide That Makes Starting Your Own Online Sportsbook Easy.

What are our OCs made of?

Anything can happen, but it does appear the issue in Miami’s offense goes far deeper than just play selection. It’s so early though that there is plenty of hope the Dolphins can turn it around… What You Need to Start Your Bookie Business.

… So, we have to believe and wait and see. Maybe in Vegas Miami can flip the script too? Go Phins!!!

    MJ,

Thank you for your response back to me. Many people going into the season, including numerous Dolphins fans at the Sports Bar feel that we will take a step back this year. Meaning less wins vs. the 10 last season. Some thought 9-7 or even 8-8. This is due to the development of Tua, O-Line, and a dual OC tandem that will not work. You are right, Gailey leaving is a very tough loss. Flores showed his youth and inexperience here. Also your comment about Grier and the draft picks is very accurate. If the team takes a step back, Grier could be fired by Ross and Marvin Allen perhaps taking over the reigns. The schedule is easier than last year, however, our first 4-5 games are tough. Need to go 2-2 or 3-2! If we go 1-4 then expect a step back to close to a 500 season. I read an aricle by Yahoo Sports regarding the Dolphins. Overall very positive. The writer stated that Miami has chosen to go the route of accumualating draft picks and developing its young talent vs. high priced free agents that have not worked. However, the article did go on to mention that the Dolphins are not as close to being a contending team as some might think. He ascerted that the team is about 2 seasons possibly away from taking the big next step. This is primarliy due to youth and player development. I unfortunately tend to agree. Your thoughts?

Grier tired to draft smarter than everyone… it’s not looking good. I guess it could tur around, but I don’t feel confident for many reasons….If we can scrap together a win… maybe something can happen. The defense played pretty well all things considered. The offense has had big chip put into it and it’s worse than last year… I just don’t know. Tua is hurt and looks frozen and tunnel visioned when he plays… not sure if he’ll ever develop with this system… if all three of those top picks are busts, this regime is in HUGE trouble… and the Phins will need a miricle. Grier could be selling the house to look good and keep his job. All those picks should have been enough… but, he dealt brilliantly and spent like a fool!

I wandered when it was first announced that we were going to have 2 OC’S how that was going to work. We all saw first hand Sunday against the Bills. After the first end blitz I wandered why Tua couldn’t see it and audible to a quick slant or something other than a straight 7 step drop and take the sack. Then I believe two plays later he’s in the shotgun and here comes the end around for another sack. We’re wandering what the hell, are we the only ones noticing this. In my mind the coaches got Tua put out of the game. While on the sideline before the 2nd series are they not talking showing whats happening.I don’t get it.Get rid of one of the 2 OC. This is crazy,it’s like the line didn’t know who to block. And the worst part was Josh Allen didn’t have a great game and we still got waxed.I’m not a coach but I’m wandering if what we have are better options than Gailey from last year. Just so pissed right now and thinking this is the way it’s going to be the rest of the season. What’s the Raiders going to do this week, they’ve seen the film.I wouldn’t change a thing if I were them.

Something somewhere is very wrong on offense. The defense aside from the big run wasn’t terrible considering they were on the field all last week. We are missing Davis in the middle though. My concern is when Gailey quit we were up a creek without a paddle. Gailey was the first Coordinator of note that wanted to work with us and we promoted Tua behind his back and without him knowing… that’s why he quit. What good coach would want to work here if that type of stuff is on the table… these two OCs appear to be the scraps and the best we could find, Randy… hope I am wrong.

MJ, Flores should have told the players if you think the offense is too complicated, we can find you another team! Shea was okay. I am and was very concerned how a “dual” OC system would work. In this league if you have to “dumb down” the offense schemes, you can expect the opposing defenses to be like sharks smelling blood in the water! O-Line is young and inexperienced with a number of new faces. Austin Jackson played fairly well last year. Not sure what the problem is this year? Jesse Davis in NOT a starting O-Lineman in this league. He is strictly a 2nd string caliber player! Flores has made numerous coaching changes since arriving. He has now a reputation as being tough to work for and inpatient. Now we will have a hard time luring a quality OC, DC to come down because they don’t think they will be given a fair chance! Should have drafted Sewell vs. Phillips in the 1st round. Phillips from what I have seen in 2 regular season games and pre-season has not even had a “whiff” of a QB! Flores is a defensive minded coach and then we took Holland at Safety vs. drafting a “bell-cow” rb at 230+ lbs. who can do it all. Many pundits and fans believe the Dolphins will take a step back this year. For me the jury is out, but if the Raiders take us to task, then perhaps we will be 8-8, 9-7, or less. Lots of talk about the Dolphins just waiting in the wings for now to let Watson and his legal issues pass. Then we sign him! This is only rumor, but anything is possible.

“MJ, Flores should have told the players if you think the offense is too complicated, we can find you another team! “ Agree… but, I’ve been thinking over it and he must have had Gailey in the wings. So, to me, I liked Oshea and the system, but I can’t complain about Gailey… unfortuntley, we promoted Tua without Gailey knowing or being consulted and without Tua knowing the playbook. Gailey quit because of this and now NO OC of any worth will work here. But, was it Flores that forced the move or someone else?

“the offense schemes, you can expect the opposing defenses to be like sharks smelling blood in the water! O-Line is young and inexperienced with a number of new faces. Austin Jackson played fairly well last year.”
Jackson was suppar last year, but that was expected… this year he has fallen off the cliff and wouldn’t start on any team and most would be cut if not for his draft status.
“Jesse Davis in NOT a starting O-Lineman in this league. He is strictly a 2nd string caliber player!” His play has been off compared ot last year… but notice he is being left alone while Jackson is protected. I think he could start at guard, but I finally agree his edge protection isn’t good enough… but the sack on Tua was a prime example of this O staff screwing the Olinemen.
“Flores has made numerous coaching changes since arriving. He has now a reputation as being tough to work for and inpatient.”
Flores came to Miami and no wanted to work here because we had little talent and Ross was known as a backstabber with the flight to Harbarough. Flores was a new coach and had a hard time finding staff because of that. Once we inserted Tua without Gailey’s knowledge or consent and he quit because of it… we are dead in the water for coaches.
“Should have drafted Sewell vs. Phillips in the 1st round. Phillips from what I have seen in 2 regular season games and pre-season has not even had a “whiff” of a QB! Flores is a defensive minded coach and then we took Holland at Safety vs. drafting a “bell-cow” rb at 230+ lbs. who can do it all.”
Gm Grier is on the edge of utter disaster. He had several big moves of ‘I’m smarter than you”. He did a great job in aquiring picks and it appears at the moment a terrible job in spending them.
If we lose to Vegas in a tight fight… okay… we get blown out and self destruct and we will sink like a stone!
      Don’t want Watson… it’s a bandaide over gangerine.

The Dolphins sucked on every level. Coaches and players alike. Offense line really sucked. Penalties killed the offense and the defense. Special teams even sucked.
Tua can’t take those beatings. Maybe we should get Cam Newton. Brissett looked lost.
    Ugly, ugly loss!

Van, it was terrible. We are so basic on O and so many don’t know what they are doing… BUT, don’t worry… they are benching Kindley, so things should go better.

  • Bingo

Where did MJ get his coaching degree. Armchair overreaction . Just beat Bill B
in his own backyard and what do you say when the phins win in Vegas baby next weekend ?
Buffalo simply owns Miami but not to say that’s the state of the league.

“Where did MJ get his coaching degree. Armchair overreaction”. Okay, what’s your explanation for so much unpicked up pressure? Why are we passing so much and not running? Why is the offense so poor when we invested so much into it? I won’t use red herrings or ad hominins on you as you used on me… because I want to hear your thoughts. Was this just a regular ole’ loss?
