Dolphins “O” Takes the Day as Training Camp Momentum Continues
The Miami Dolphins are still in the early stages of training camp, but Day 4 delivered an encouraging development. For the first time this summer, the offense appeared to gain the upper hand over the defense, providing another positive checkpoint as the team prepares for its first padded practice.
While it’s important not to overreact to unpadded sessions, an offensive victory this early is notable. Through the opening practices, Miami’s defense has consistently set the tone. Seeing the offense respond before the physical portion of camp begins suggests the unit is beginning to find its rhythm under head coach Jeff Hafley.
Much of that optimism starts up front.
The Good & Bad on the O-line
Rookie left guard Kadyn Proctor continues to stack impressive practices. Reports credited Proctor with helping spring another explosive run after already opening a 75-yard gain earlier in camp. Just as importantly, Hafley hasn’t been content to simply praise the rookie. The coaching staff has used teaching moments to challenge Proctor’s technique, reinforcing the details that will matter once the regular season begins. It’s exactly the type of development Miami hoped to see from one of its biggest offseason additions.
The left side of the offensive line appears to be settling in. Patrick Paul, Proctor and Aaron Brewer have all shown encouraging signs, giving the Dolphins reason to believe that side of the line could become a strength. The concern remains on the opposite side.
Jonah Savaiinaea had an up-and-down practice, surrendering pressure on one snap before responding with a quality run block on the next. Austin Jackson also experienced a difficult stretch, allowing pressure from Josh Uche before being beaten again by Chop Robinson. While neither performance is cause for panic, consistency on the right side remains one of the biggest questions facing the offense.
Quarterbacks ALL Had a Good Day
Despite those concerns, the passing game enjoyed one of its best days of camp. Malik Willis and the rest of Miami’s quarterbacks reportedly moved the ball effectively, with the offense generating several explosive plays through the air. That offensive production outweighed a handful of defensive highlights, including another strong showing from Willie Gay Jr., flashes from Kenneth Grant, and continued pressure from Josh Uche.
There are still injury concerns to monitor with Greg Dulchich and particularly along the offensive line with Jamaree Salyer out of practice.
You can bet with the best pay per head that the Dolphins know the true evaluations begin once the pads come on. However, Day 4 offered something Miami had been waiting for: evidence that the offense is beginning to catch up to the defense.
The biggest tests still lie ahead, but if the offensive line continues to develop and the right side becomes more consistent, the Dolphins may be laying the foundation for the balanced, physical offense they have spent the offseason trying to build.
