Phins OTAs: Good To See Some Action

Phins OTAs is the dress rehearsal for Training Camp

The Phins have officially started their OTA’s which are the dress rehearsal for Training Camp. Even though we are still a ways off from live games, and there’re no pads or contact, it’s just good to see the boys out on the field…

… especially with this new staff to guide them.

This is our first look at this new staff, and so far, discipline has been an ongoing theme. Good news for certain. Even though many price per head sportsbook softwares like Ace Pay Per Head are not predicting much from the Dolphins this year, Miami Dolphins News fans are excited to see what this new regime is made of.

As Brian Flores says, “Rent has to be paid every day!”

OTAs is where the battle for positions and roster spots begin, so every player is taking them very seriously. Obviously, the most talked about competition is between Fitzpatrick and Rosen for starting Quarterback. Right out of the gate Fitzpatrick has been playing with the starters and has looked the part of a seasoned vet. Fitzpatrick has made lots of quality throws and had full control of the offense.

Rosen too has had his fair share of good throws as well but has also taken quite a few would be sacks and had some fumbles. He still has a lot of work to do to earn the starting job. However, let’s not forget that Rosen is still just entering his second season and is learning a brand new offense. His learning curve will be much steeper than Fitzpatrick.

However, the hope is Rosen will close the gap fast. Come camp we should see him improving at a much faster rate than the 13-year veteran Fitzpatrick.

Dolphins are looking everywhere for help

In other news from camp, the Dolphins signed ex-Bengals running back Mark Walton who has had issues with the law. Flores is coming from New England where they aren’t afraid to take a flier on a talented player, even if they are not a model citizen. Whether Walton can make the team and become the third running back behind Drake and Ballage will be interesting to watch. He looks like he could fill a ‘James White’ role in the backfield.

Jones in the news again

There has also been a lot of talk that Reshad Jones was not at OTAs, but he has been training on his own and is still nursing a shoulder injury. This shouldn’t be a concern. Flores and the rest of the Dolphins believe he will be on the field when it counts when mandatory practices begin later in the summer.

Dolphins are signing Orchard soon

Last, the Dolphins are brought in DE/OLB Connor Barwin for a visit who is a 10-year veteran that played last year with the New York Giants. He has 56.5 career sacks, but only 11 sacks in the last 3 seasons. For a team that’s lacking pass rush on paper, maybe he could be a situational player?

This signing might never come to be because the Dolphins are being reported that they will sign edge rusher Nate Orchard to a contract imminently. The Browns selected him Orchard 51st overall in the 2015 draft but has only started two games since his rookie season. He bounced around with the Chiefs and Seahawks unable to stick.

This is a low-cost move that hopes to bring Orchard’s potential to fruition. Not a bad move. He’s young, cheap and comes with a pedigree.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts of the beginning of OTAs?

    Admin nice Article!

Nice to have Dunner back in the saddle.

I like Fitzpatrick and Rosen and they are not mediocre.

We finally have a solid coaching staff. I continue telling myself that we are rebuilding the correct way. That being said! Keep in mind we are still ranked 32nd in the NFL. Meaning we are lacking many pieces just my opinion!

I, myself as a fan must stay focused on that. The site below when time permits please view it. It has given the best break down of our Dolphins.

Regardless of what! We are rebuilding the right way. I want the number one pick for us in 2020. There must be constant Quarterback competition. This is the best I have felt about the Dolphins in two decades.

Thanks, this was Jimmy’s though… I did add some bell and whistles, so thanks. Watched the video– pretty good… disagreed with some though. Pass rush I think will be much better than 32. I’d say 18th or thereabouts. Also, I noticed he and PFF rank run defense as not really important anymore. Yet, every year the Patriots are much better in run D than Pass D. I think this game is making a turn back to running the ball and stopping the run. Just my opinion though. But, overall good watched. Thanks. One comment I liked in the comment section, “Every year people predict Miami to be terrible and every year they end up .500. A two-win team is terrible!! Only way this team get there is if Flores and co. stink or this O-line is abominable.

        Thanks Admin!

Ranked 32nd should be our objective at the end of this season. Beatings the Patriots both games this seasoned would be enough to keep me happy.

I side with you, we will missed our objective being 8 and 8 this season,
Rebounding means we have the talent but missed the opportunity.
Reloading means we are just adding and restocking to defend. We
are not in that categories yet.

We are going threw ground floor reconstructions and
Rebuilding will be uncomfortable but necessary.

Stop quoting the linebacker coach’s worn out cliches. Just get to the meat of your paragraph.
Thanks for reinforcing the idea that we will have an opening roster composed of broken toys Grier Hope’s we can fix at low cost.

“Stop quoting the linebacker coach’s worn out cliches. Just get to the meat of your paragraph.”

This was Jimmy’s… but funny, I did add that line, so I can respond. Sorry, I don’t take orders from you :). Also, that quote isn’t cliche because I never heard it. The sentiments, yes. The quote, no. Now, I know you’re a real Phin FREAK, but I think chicken little thing is a bit too much. This roster is about as bad as a dozen teams in the league… the O-line is the only real concern for me. As for the LB coach thing… Belichick hired Schiano to replace him and when he quit, Belichick assumed the duties himself. That says something in my book. If all it took was a dead body to run the D… then Beli would have put another corpse there… Still too far to early to gauge, but the NFL is built to create mediocrity and great and terrible teams are the outliers. I expect much of the same meh type season in 2019.
