Phins Out of ‘Worst Team Ever’ Talk… Now What?
Some feared a ‘Perfect Season’ for Pats and an ‘Anti Perfect Season’ for Phins
Despite what appeared a ‘tank job’, the Phins notched their first win of the season against the New York Jest. Miami was the laughing stock of the league, but now the Jets, Browns, Redskins, and Bengals are now taking most of the heat from the media.
After two horrific blowouts, the Phins have slowly improved and their last few games have been closely contested losses. While many teams are trending down, the Phins are trending up. Even if that arc up is slight, it’s a testament to the coaching of Brian Flores.
Miami might be bad in 2019, but thankfully they aren’t among the worst ever
This win against the Jets has removed the Dolphins from being in the conversation of worst team in NFL history. Prior to the season, the best pay per head sportsbook (www.AcePerHead.com)projected the Dolphins to be the worst team in the league. The money guys had Miami with the lowest Regular Season win total of any team in the league at 4.5 games under -125. For those not wagering savvy, this just means that someone would have to wager $125 to win $100 if the Dolphins won less than 4.5 games this season. Although Vegas may have nailed the win total, several other teams are far worse than anticipated.
With only five teams winless since 1944 (the 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns the most recent), the 2019 Dolphins will end up bad this season, but at least not all-time terrible. That appears reserved for the Bengals. This lone win removes them from the conversation of ‘worst eva’ and should force the media to change their narrative. Although, some talking heads have stuck to their guns and even doubled down.
Though the Dolphins are out of that conversation, it is far less likely they secure that coveted first pick in the upcoming draft. I desperately want us to get the #1 overall pick, but those hopes are in serious jeopardy.
The ‘downside’ to the victory is a lower draft pick
Sure even if we end up getting the top pick, we still need to make it count. Also, there’s no guarantee that whoever is available at #1 will be the ‘savior of this franchise’. However, having the first choice in the entire draft puts full control of getting the one player this organization wants the most. With this power card, there’s no missing out on any player because a team will pick ahead of us.
This likely won’t be the position Miami has in the 2020 Draft.
With all the terrible teams this year, Miami looks like they’ll end up somewhere around the 3rd- 6th pick. This year the Phins and their fans can’t have their cake and eat it too like in 2007.
Chances are Miami won’t be able to trade up to the top spot either
In addition, while having three 1st Round picks and plenty of ammunition to trade up or down, the talents of Tua, Burrow, and Young will likely make the trade up to get them cost-prohibitive or not possible. The Bengals will be looking for QB, and if they get that spot they won’t trade out. And if Miami falls behind the half a dozen teams with only 1 or 2 wins, they will need to fork over at least two, and likely more, blue-chip picks to move up to get one of these three players.
While it sounds good to go get ‘your quarterback’, a miss that big would kill this regime and franchise for a long time. BUT like every fan, I want the Phins to become champions again. Being this close and missing out on a franchise quarterback will be a major letdown to our fan base if one of these rookies wins a Super Bowl before Miami does.
The Phins could end up in a very sticky situation come the draft… unless they have a successful plan for the quarterback position that doesn’t include Tua or Burrow.
Like I said before, I’m all in on this reset and makeover of the team, but a little success could have us missing out on the most important part of the rebuild. Of course, Chris Grier could have an ace up his sleeve.

Hello Dolphins Fans and Admin
NOT TANKING OKAY IF YOU SAY SO!
We win 3 more games leaves us at the 4th to 9th picked. Admin I’m sold on Jalen Hurst.
Most likely these players will be there:
Five solid performers in their position.
1st Round
7th picked Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia:OT: Andrew Thomas, Georgia*
14th picked Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin/ RB: Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin
24th picked Jalen Hurst QB OK
2nd Round
Xavier KcKinney Alabama Safety https://youtu.be/y7QH4jCamKE
Prince Tega Wanogho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHiGCyTUkrA
Tanking means you are trying to lose. If they wanted to lose that game they should have started Rosen. Now are they trying tuff out and players with zero concern for the impact on this season, yes. Tanking is what the Bengals appear to be doing. 0-16 would be a tank.

2019 Season:
Just a quick note:
Dolphins this season stat 2019: 37 years old Ryan Fitzpatrick 7 games–8-TD’s–7 Intersections–Rushed for 51 yards and one 1 TD rushing.
J. Rosen age 22 played in 5 games—5 Intersections–16 sacks and rush for 13 yards.
No respect for this player just winning games:This season 2019
Jalen Hurst 8–games 2469 yards passing, 21-TD’s —3–Intersections–Rushed 801 yards–13 TD’s rushing, Receiving 36 yards. Mel Kiber says Hurst he is a 4th round or 5th round pick. Give me a break Mel!
Here’s my take on the Dual QB: They can run just don’t take the hits. RG3 and Mike Vick refused to avoid contact and it cost both their careers.
The pistol offense It is a hybrid of the traditional shotgun and single back offenses. My question Fritz, Admin and Dol-Fans the dolphins run a empty backfield sometimes right? But they would throw Rosen or Fitzpatrick back there over a Jalen Hurst??????? Not a trick questioned please explained the reasoning?

Steve,
I think the Dolphins run plays according to the opponent for the week. I await Admin weighing in.
My guess is that Jalen Hurst could fit well in the pistol. But at 6’1″ is he the prototypical size the Dolphins look for in a QB.
Fritz thanks for your reply back!
The Dolphins offensive identity: Who are they?
Fritz what have the Fins established with Fitzpatrick or Rosen under the center this season nothing personal against them?
This article explains the Raven’s Offense that beat the Dolphins 59 to 10 and the undefeated Patriots 20 Ravens 37 and Sea Hawks 16 Ravens 30 this season. The Ravens have lost to the Chief’s and the Brown’s this season.
I understand the Ravens have implemented about 130 play’s conducive to Lamar Jackson’s skill set.
https://www.footballoutsiders.com/film-room/2018/film-room-lamar-jackson-and-pistol
In the upcoming draft the fins can draft a pair of the very Best R/B’s along with J. Hurst. Prime time TV would want to see them play. The Bills got Josh Allen, the Jets got Donald and we got Rosen’s and the Patriots for two decades are feeling no threat from their Division Rivals???
Waiting for your reply Admin!
I don’t know Hurts… need to watch him. I don’t like mobile QBs unless they are like Wilson. Throwers first who happen to be mobile…. okay. Jackson will struggle over time and the injuries stack. Like Achilles, he will be a stud with a short window most likely. If he wins a SB (or more) it’s worth it. But one bad ankle sprain and he will be in big trouble. I don’t like putting the QB in danger. Once Playoffs comes the goodwill players have towards him and how they lay off him will change. Maybe he proves me wrong… but I’ll take Brady over Jackon and Wilson over Brady.
Steve,
Flores wants a run oriented offense. He likes big, fast, one cut RB that hits the hole and breaks tackles in the second level. That doesn’t mean he won’t challenge downfield with the vertical passing attack. It really depends on who the opponent is that week which will determine what offense you see.
I will add that Chad O’Shea is coming along quite well in implementing the offense. Aside from some rookie mistakes early on, his play calling has been getting better each week, particularly since the boneheaded 2 point conversion attempt against the Redskins. On defense, I’m still not too sure about Patrick Graham.
Watch for when the Dolphins get better players on the OL and a solid RB, the offense you see will be smash mouth. Of course we must have the QB that is mobile but can stand in the pocket and read defenses.
Be patient, the Dolphins are on the rise but it will take time. Go Dolphins!

If you desperately want us to get the #1 overall pick it will required to stay with the plan.
My Questioned I have for the Dolphins:
1. We trade away the key players this season and fight to re position out of the 2020 draft top picks??
2. Why Win a few more games this season and then trade away this team extra picks to get lower in the draft??
3. Why would we draft Justin Hubert and pass on Jalen Hurst??, If Hurbert had Jalen’s record he would be the 1st picked without a doubt?
4. What arrangement will the Dolphins make for their next QB? or will this be 1,2,3 on the bench and the fans booing Flores out? Take Jalen Hurst! He was top of the SEC as Freshman etc.
Need to watch Hurts!!!
Hello Dol-Fans and Admin
Just to say on the Edge defenders Chase Young we know is the top Weaver from Boise State is a Second Rounder and the rest on this list are most likely day 3 to to un drated. What’s unique about this group they are leading the nation in their stats even though there are other edge rusher ranked mush higher.

Dolphins are not in the “Tank” anymore… Free the PHINS to go and be the best they can be. Develop a winning attitude is most important part of Team Ball. We got Dan with 5 QB’s picked ahead of him. When was Brady taken? 7th round I believe. It all starts with coaching and attitude. So go ahead and BEAT everyone you can and play hard and make us proud of our team again… Just saying… GO PHINS!
Yes, sir!!! That’s my belief as well, Gary. It does take some luck and skill to find a QB later, but really, if they can’t they aren’t good enough to find the rest of the pieces. I do agree with Jimmy a bit… I’m sorta’ having a crush on Young and Burrow (ATM), but not enough to root for losing. I hated the thought of ‘tanking”.
“So go ahead and BEAT everyone you can and play hard and make us proud of our team again… Just saying… GO PHINS!”
100%
But, I can understand the desire for younger fans who just want something anything to hold onto to feel good about. And having the #1 pick would feel real nice… but for me, as you said Gary, the price of going 0-16 was too high for that.
