Phins vs Bills: Thursday Night Funeral or Miracle?

Thursday night football promises drama, intensity, and the occasional miracle—but for the Miami Dolphins, it may just serve as a painful reminder of where they currently stand. Facing a Buffalo Bills team led by the ever-dominant Josh Allen, the Dolphins will need more than luck and wishful thinking to compete.

On any given Sunday they say! Let’s hope that counts for Thursdays too because Miami is currently a whopping 12.5-point home-team underdog.

I’m not saying I disagree with this spread, but it sure is grim.

Miami is fighting for their season and Mike McDaniel’s job. While there’s not enough ‘hopium’ to get me to believe the Phins can win, they are playing, so let’s get into the matchup.

Tweety Bird vs Godzilla?

The Dolphins are struggling hard, and with leadership adrift, injuries mounting, and Miami short on talent, it doesn’t look good against a tough division opponent. To make matters worse, the Phins 2025 Season is kaput if they lose and likely Mike McDaniel’s tenure in Miami as well.

Everyone is yelling from the rafters about the coaching staff’s soft approach and locker room morale. Players have been inconsistent at best, absent at worst, and the energy in the building feels muted. McDaniel, once the architect of hope in Miami, now finds himself navigating a roster that hasn’t quite lived up to expectations, and critics aren’t shy about pointing out the cracks in his team or him.

Can the Phins and McDaniel rise to the occasion?

No.

I mean theoretically they can, I guess… but this team hasn’t proved tough or clutch, so it’s quite the stretch of the imagination to see them doing it here. But until the clock strikes zero it’s not in the books, although it sure feels like it has.

So, let’s enter the Twighlight Zone to see how the Dolphins matchup to the Bills.

Let’s deal in the absurd and examine Miami’s advantages

Miami is currently the 25th ranked scoring offense, 15th in passing, and the 29th rush attack. On the flip side, the Bills defense is ranked the 22nd in points allowed, 1st in passing, and the 31st in rush attack. Despite the Bills struggles to stop the run, Miami is at the bottom of the league in running the football and McDaniel is averse to calling run plays. To make matters worse, the Phins sorta’ strength of throwing the football going right at the teeth of the Bills defense that leads the league in pass defense. Bills also happen to be tied 8th in most sacks as well.

Let’s hope Tua survives.

Strong edge goes to the Bills defense vs. the Dolphins offense.

The Buffalo offense is near the top of the league in all major categories ranking 2nd in scoring, 2nd in passing, and 2nd in rushing the ball. The very bad news is Miami’s defense is ranked 31st in points allowed, 24th in pass yards surrendered, and 25th in run defense.

OUCH!

The only area where the Phins defense has shown some strength is in getting to the quarterback. While they are tied 16th in the league with half a dozen teams, they have had to blitz with the kitchen sink to get pressure.

I don’t think that will work well for them against Buffalo.

Super strong edge goes to the Bills defense vs. the Dolphins offense.

Bills win this one. No explanation needed.

The only area where we might have an advantage is special teams returns. This is a hit and miss though. Miami’s kick coverage surrendered a score on a kickoff last week one play after they returned punt for a touchdown. I think they are far more likely to see more return success than they are to fail that bad on coverage. You never know though. Still, our returners at home are potent weapons and outshine the Bills here.

Slight Edge goes to the Phins Special Teams.

Let’s be REAL!

You can bet with the best pay per head that the Dolphins will most certainly lose this week barring a miracle. We’ve fallen so far with our beloved Phins that only question now is how much will we lose by? I personally think it will be by more than 12.5 points. But knowing this team, they’ll likely make it a game only to rip our hearts out with a 4th Qtr collapse to make it as painful as possible.

The good news is win or lose we fans win. Either we humiliate the Bills or get the final rip cord pulled in this terrible regime.

Get ready for a new regime and new rebuild!

Go Phins!!!
