Picking CBs: Jackson or Flowers?

The Dolphins are entering a playoff or bust season and work is already being put in to upgrade this team to a playoff status team. There are a few positions that the Phins must improve in and one of those is the cornerback position. Most football gambling fans would say that the Dolphins already have one of the top 5 cover corners in the game in Brent Grimes. Now they just need to find someone that is capable enough to cover the opposite side of the field that can replace Cortland Finnegan, who was just released to create more than $5 million in cap room. There are some big names out there like Darrelle Revis, who I would love, but is probably too expensive. The Dolphins may try to draft a cornerback, however, this regime has drafted 3 corners so far (Aiken, Taylor, and Davis) and none of them have played well enough to feel comfortable about them starting, so the wise move would be to sign an established veteran in free agency.

Two corner-backs that are generating a lot of noise in the Miami Organization are Kareem Jackson from the Houston Texans and Brandon Flowers from the San Diego Chargers. Both of these players would be considered an upgrade for Miami, and would also allow them to give their other young corners on the team one more season to prove if they can “turn the corner.”

Jackson played in 13 games last season and was able to come down with 3 interceptions, 57 tackles, 9 passes defended and allowed a QB rating of only 74.1 against him. He has been in the league for 5 years and is 26 years old, and many pay per head reviews believe he has the ability to be one of the better number two corners in the league, which could mean he could prosper from being the opposite of Grimes.

Flowers has very similar statistics last year with 3 interceptions, 52 tackles, 10 passes defended in 14 games last season, and allowed a QB rating of only 84.2 against him. He has been in the league longer with 7 years under his belt and just turned 29. He is born and raised in Delray Beach and has personally expressed interest in having the opportunity to play at home with the Miami Dolphins. The one knock on Flowers is that he is more of a scheme corner-back, so if Coyle does not use him the way he has been used in San Diego, then he may not have as much success.

Both players are quality corners in the NFL, so either one would be an upgrade, and also allow us to use our precious draft picks on other positions of need. However, if I had to choose one player over the other I would choose Jackson, because he is younger, and is the better pure cover corner of the two players. What does the rest of Miami Dolphins news fans think about these two players, and which would you prefer if you had to make the executive decision?
