If Ryan Tannehill were allowed to decide who the Dolphins would draft in the first round, do you guys think he would select a wide receiver or an offensive lineman? If Tannehill were asked this question I’m sure he would give a politically non-committal answer, however, if he truly had to pick one or the other I believe he would select an offensive lineman. For starters, the only way Tannehill can help his team to win is if he is healthy, and if he is not protected adequately by his lineman, then his health is more at risk. Also, Tannehill has the skill set and other intangibles to be a very good QB in this league, however, it is a lot harder to reach his potential if he is under constant duress and is running for his life.

With all that being said, the best pay per head reviews would say that it would be wise for Miami to invest another first-round pick in an offensive lineman, in order to indirectly help their pseudo franchise QB reach his full potential. (I say pseudo because Miami still has not made the big plunge and invested in a long term contract, but it is expected that they will.) Another option is LSU‘s La’el Collins, but there is chatter that a team in the top ten really likes him, so he may also not be available when Miami is on the clock. The next top-rated lineman is Ereck Flowers, the OT from the University of Miami.

I would not mind Miami selecting Flowers in the first round, and I especially like that he plays with a mean streak and is a tough hard-nosed football player. As I have said countless times before, a team can never have enough tough hard-nosed players and he would raise the level of the competition for both the offensive and defensive line personnel.
