Ramsey Wants Out! Fun In the Sun No More!
Ramsey & Phins mutually agree to part ways
The latest bombshell news story about the Miami Dolphins is Jalen Ramsey and the Miami Dolphins have agreed to part ways. In Chris Grier’s latest press conference he has said Ramsey hasn’t demanded a trade, but this seems like parsing words and not being truthful. If Ramsey wants out, then for all intent and purposes he wants to be cut or traded.
Whatever the word gymnastics, you can bet with the best pay per head that the Phins have a major problem with a disgruntled Ramsey. Remember how ugly it became with Ramsey and the Jaguars when he wanted out of there? What a disaster if it turns out like that!
So, the Dolphins are now between a rock and a hard place… again.
Ramsey wants out, but it won’t be that easy
The biggest problem isn’t he wants to leave; it’s Ramsey is 31 years old and has a massive contract, so the Phins will likely get fleeced in parting with him.
What else is new? The Dolphins are All Pro at getting the business while holding the short end of the stick
Miami will find it very hard to trade Ramsey pre-draft unless they want to eat a ton of money. It will cost them a $8 million dollar hit on their cap with $25 million dead money pre-June. A post June trade is the most feasible trade period with $9 million in savings and only $7 million in Dead Cap. But what will they get for Ramsey? Likely only a 3rd Round or so next year, if that.
The bigger problem near term is they won’t have any real cornerback to play boundary in 2025… and no, I don’t think Cam Smith is an answer. This will likely force the Dolphins to draft a corner back with their 13th pick in the draft and make trading back a little more dangerous. I really liked the thought of trading back for more ammo. Maybe it’s still on the table, but it will be riskier now.
Dolphins find themselves desperately thin at another position
The Phins need help on the offensive line and are even more thin on the defensive line. Now though, without Ramsey, if he forces himself off the team, the Dolphins are ultra-thin at defensive back as well. Miami currently doesn’t have a starting safety, and their cornerback group has only Kohou as a somewhat dependable player. Can they really pass on Will Johnson or Jahdae Barron? What if both are gone? Will Malakai Starks be their fallback player? The problem now with a trade back is it could put all three off the board. Then what?
Clearly, the Phins are in a desperate state and Chris Grier and his management are to blame. Grier went all in on Ramsey and even extended him last season, which doubled their trouble now that Ramsey wants out. The once promising move to acquire Ramsey has now turned quite sour but hasn’t that been the way most Grier moves have turned out? Go Phins!!!
Even the players acknowledge that the Dolphins are losers with a better chance at getting worse than getting better!
