Reshad Jones one of Miami’s best defenders’ plans on a holdout.
Just a short time after a career year and Reshad Jones is now planning a holdout for a new contract.
“Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports Rehad Jones isn’t “content” with his current deal. He’s got two years left on the contract with a base salary of $7.225 million for 2016 and $7.06 million for 2017 and a signing bonus slightly under $1 million for both seasons, per Spotrac.”
Already the fourth highest-paid Safety, Dolphins GM Chris Grier has a potential crisis on his hand. Reshad Jones is a premiere piece of Miami’s defense and any absence will be felt.
First, from his standpoint, Reshad Jones has all the leverage and it’s the perfect time to get a pay raise.
From a fan’s standpoint, it comes as a total surprise and is a bit of a bummer.
From Miami’s standpoint, with only $12mill in cap room next year, this could pose a bit of a problem.
With Reshad Jones holdout looming, is Safety now a need in the draft?
Dawn Aponte could get creative and add years and bonuses to offset the hit. But, this has the potential to set a precedent for a new regime that might lead to more trouble down the road as other players might be interested in gambling and try to imitate Jones.
The holdout creates a potential issue as the draft fast approaches. Does Tannenbaum consider Safety a position that now needs to be addressed with their limited picks? This would put undo stress on their board with only a couple of days before they begin picking.
This isn’t the kind of surprise pay per head bookie fans were hoping for and I hope it’s not a harbinger of things to come. What do Dolphins fans think of Reshad Jones’ holdout?
