We have already addressed the fact that Miami needs to find a corner back to play opposite Brent Grimes. There are quite a few names in free agency that Miami can consider, and this upcoming draft is not very deep in corner backs, so Miami should sign someone in free agency. One name that will command a big contract, but still should be considered is Darrelle Revis.
Revis is a show me the money type of guy, but he is also one of the best corner backs in the entire league, and most sports gambling fans would say he is Hall of Fame type material. Revis was battling injuries his last couple of seasons, however last year on New England he was healthy and produced another pro bowl season. He finished the season with 47 tackles, 2 interceptions, 14 passes defended, and 1 forced fumble. But the one thing that the stats do not tell you about Revis is that Quarterback’s rarely throw towards his side of the field. He has the ability to completely shut down his half of the field, and he can do it against the opposing teams’ best receiver.
Obviously getting a player of Revis’ caliber is going to cost a pretty penny, however he would make the Dolphins secondary one of the best in the entire league. Teaming him up with Brent Grimes would automatically give Miami the best CB combination in the league. To say that teams would have a hard time throwing against the Phins would be an under statement. Teams are throwing the ball more and more, so if a team can stop the pass, then they are putting themselves in a very good position to win a lot of football games.
The Dolphins will be able to create enough cap space to sign one big time free-agent, and this free agency period is going to have quite a few excellent players that play positions that Miami desperately needs to improve. The question is, is a player like Revis on the short list of players that Miami should strongly target?
