Bosa likes to attack the Right Tackle from every angle.
Right Tackle will play a key role in the Miami Dolphins finally getting their record over .500. Don’t deceive yourself, it likely that this is not going to be easy. The San Diego Chargers have a high octane offense led by Rivers and Gordon, a decent Defense, and it will be a home game for them.
But, that decent defense has rookie Joey Bosa, and he has played at a very high level. Bosa can play stand-up or hand in the dirt, and he loves to attack the Right Tackle.
That’s where Ja’Waun James plays, and so far this season, he has had some rocky patches.
The best pay per head websites in the world opened the line as the Chargers as the -3.5 point favorite. The line moved up to -4 in favor of the Chargers by midweek, and has stayed steady there as of Saturday afternoon. The action is coming in very lopsided at an almost 6 to 1 ratio on the Chargers. The public clearly does not think the Dolphins are for real, and hopefully this works to our favor, since when the public is so heavily on one side, than the opposite team often covers or wins.
Yes, we all know that the Dolphins are going to have to just stick with their recent game plan of running the ball. and even though the Chargers have the 5th best rushing defense in the league, currently allowing only 85.3 yards per game, they must remain committed.
James will have an easier time against Bosa in the run game, as Bosa has had a hard time freeing himself up from blocks. The Larger James should have a good day in this regard and there’s little concern in him moving Bosa around.
Right Tackle has become the preferred Tackle to attack in recent years.
But, unless they plan to always be on schedule or run 100%, James will have to face Bosa in a pass rush situation at some point.
Bosa has a strong dip move with a nice first step, good bend, and ability to gain leverage. This has been James’ specific Kryptonite that has put Tannehill in serious trouble. James has also had problems with switches, and Bosa’s movement along the line due to his ability to fill a couple roles will add complexity to job of Right Tackle. And this confusion has given defends free shots at Tannehill and that has caused turn-overs.
If Miami wants a “W” today, turn-overs on offense will likely kill the chances of that.
But, if Miami can have success running the ball it will have double the benefits. It will not only help Miami score points and control the clock, it will keep Philip Rivers off the field and keep James in a beneficial setting. Limiting the number of times James has in one-on-one situations with Bosa will help him tremendously and that will help keep the winning streak rolling.
In James defense, he has played better in the areas that he has shown weakness in the early part of the season. Maybe James has ironed out his issues and will prove to be a good match-up against Bosa — but, I’d hate to gamble the season on that. Go Fins!!!
