Rumor Alert: Eric Weddle Traded to the Phins
This may only be a pipe dream but once things are put out there in the universe they have a funny way of coming true. Now that the cat is out of the bag that Delmas will miss the entire 2015 season with another knee injury, the agent for Eric Weddle the former Pro Bowl Safety from the San Diego Chargers has publicly came out on twitter to endorse a trade to the Dolphins.
Weddle is in his final year of a 5 year contract, and he and his agent Dave Canter are looking for a long term deal, however they have hit a stalemate with the Chargers. Canter lives in Miami, and is very good friends with Weddle, so it is only natural that he would want Weddle closer to him. Clearly with the recent injury to Delmas the need is definitely there for the Miami Dolphins, however Miami is pretty financially tapped out from all their spending this off-season, so its hard to imagine that they would be able to trade for Weddle, and be able to work out a long term deal that Weddle and Canter would be interested in signing.
I would love to have a player like Weddle, but between having to trade away a solid player or possibly a high draft pick, and the monetary conundrum this would cause is way to much to give up. In addition Miami is still shaky at the two Guard positions, so if they were going to make a financial commitment to a former Pro Bowl, then I prefer that to be Evan Mathis, who is still out their lurking on the sidelines.
Even though Canter is endorsing a trade to Miami, he even admits that it probably will not happen. Most sportsbooks would say that if by some miracle that this trade did happen, then Miami would have immediately fixed their hole at safety, and would have an even more dangerous Defense than when Delmas was in the lineup. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans think about the odds of Weddle coming to Miami, and if it would even be worth it for Miami, considering they still have holes at Guard?
