Run The Ball

This might end up falling on deaf ears because it’s clear that this coaching staff does not want to run the ball. But, I’m saying it anyway: Run the &@$# Football! In 2 games the Dolphins have run the ball a dismal 34 times, which is third-worst in the league, with the Eagles (33) and Lions (32) the only teams with fewer attempts. It is no surprise that those two teams who were both expected to be above average this year are now both 0-2.

While most of the sports betting software fans around the world will agree that the NFL has transformed into a pass-happy league, the good teams have a balanced offense. The Dolphins must put more effort into running the ball because throwing the ball 62% of the time – which is what they are doing – is not working. Sure Tannehill has the 6th most passing yards in the league (585 yards) and has a QB rating of 101.7, but the Dolphins are still a pedestrian 1-1. Stats are for geeks and fantasy football fans, whereas the only true stat that counts is whether the team wins or loses the game.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins have two key injuries going into the Bills game that will make it even harder for them to establish a running game. First, Branden Albert is listed as doubtful for the game because of a hamstring injury. Albert was never 100% when he started the season, and as we said before it would have been much wiser to keep him out of the lineup until he was 100%. The problem is when a player is not 100%, then they open themselves up to either re-injuring themselves or having a brand new injury, which is what happened in Albert’s case.

The other injury that affects the running game is Lamar Miller, who is listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Miller had a nagging ankle injury last season, and it appears that it has happened again. With Ajayi still on the IR recovering from a rib injury, the Dolphins are already thin at running back. Williams has the ability to step in and handle a heavier load, but after Williams, there’s really no one else. Hopefully, Miller can play, which most sports betting fans believe he will, but if Miami does not run the ball it really does not matter if he is healthy to play or not.

Clearly throwing the ball 62% of the time is not working, so why not at least give the running game a whirl. Why not start the first offensive series of the game running on both first and second down. Give Rex Ryan and his defense a bit of his own medicine. Even if the Dolphins are not successfully running the ball, at least it keeps the opposing defense honest and keeps them guessing whether or not you are going to run or pass the ball. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ thoughts about the ‘Phins lack of a run game?
