Offseason drama & Phins seem to go hand-in-hand
Last week Tom Brady did an interview and was asked about the rumors of him speaking with the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. Surprisingly, Brady didn’t deny the allegation. Instead, he said he had talked to many teams and about other options. Clearly, if these rumors were baseless, Brady would have openly dismissed them… but, he didn’t do that in the least.
NOW, this week, there was a report that the Dolphins offered former Saints Coach Sean Payton a $100 million dollar contract for 4 years to coach the Dolphins. So, the Brady and Payton theory is moving farther from pure speculation and closer to credible take: The whole thing where there’s plenty of smoke there’s fire.
The Dolphins side-show drama is back…again
As the story shakes out it appears likely that the Brian Flores lawsuit was the main reason why these talks ended. One of the many Dolphins dramas on the menu for this season it seems. This would mean Miami’s decision to hire Mike McDaniel and stick with Tua was Plan B.
Whether you like it or not, Brady and Peyton in Miami would given the Dolphins much better odds to be the favorite to win the Super Bowl than their current +3300 odds to win it all. The odds makers have the Dolphins as a favorite to not make the playoffs at -170, whereas them to make the playoffs is +130 with a regular season win total is at over 8.5 -140. So even with all the moves Miami has made this offseason, the odds makers still don’t think Miami has done enough compared to other AFC teams. But, Vegas was wrong about Miami in 2021 and 2020. So, that’s something to hold onto!
This has some Phins fans split.
Some are fine winning even if it takes Tom Brady and moving off Tua and wished Brady and Payton had happened. Others want to vomit at the thought of it and would prefer to stick with inhouse talent, however it plays out. Either way, much like the Watson story last season, this season, Brady will be the talk should the Dolphins not meet the high expectations being set for them in 2022!
Tua & McDaniel must outrun the rumors by winning!
If Miami can improve and play up to their potential then this current team should have a serious chance to make the playoffs–even in a loaded AFC. However, Miami has a brutal start of the season, and if they under perform and go 0-4 or 1-3 out of the gate and then stumble in the next few games of the season, this could get ugly fast. This also means the media will flip their loving script and Brady and Payton talk will get turned up.
There’s hardly any room for error in an NFL season where you only play 17 games, compared to other professional sports where they play many more games during the regular season. A slow start to the 2022 Season could snowball into a nightmare scenario in Miami.
Sure, we all are hoping for Miami to finally make the move into a quality team this season, but even with all the changes made, nothing is guaranteed. Miami has a rookie head coach and a young, unproven QB with questions on the offensive line, which could prove to be too much to overcome. If Miami does underperform it doesn’t mean we’ll see Brady and Payton in South Florida…
…But you can make a sure bet with the best football software that the rumors WILL be back even stronger in the 2023 offseason.
Who wants that?!!
I’m praying that we’ve finally turned the corner into a playoff team. Still, the hard reality is the Miami Dolphins over the last two decades have been a consistent disappointment. Tua, McDaniel, and the 2022 Miami Dolphins can shake all the rumors and the past with a hot start! If not, it could get ugly. The opener against the hated New England Patriots couldn’t get any bigger!!!
