Scheme & Process Only Matters in ‘Magical’ New England

The culture that made the Pats successful could only be possible in the magical land of New England

From nearly everything I read from the sportswriters, Brian Flores is either an idiot or a liar because the Miami Dolphins are ‘tanking’ in 2019… despite his protests to the contrary. The very same writers who have opined ad nauseam on the greatness of the New England Patriots culture for decades are now saying that the same process getting installed in South Florida is a dud, disaster, or purposeful attempt to get the 1st Overall pick.

The reality must be that the ‘wondrous culture’ of the Patriots can only grow in the magical land of New England.

It surely isn’t the actual process or scheme itself. No, siree! And the preference for intelligent, disciplined, and tough players over raw talent, even if it shockingly shatters norms, is better off lip service outside of Foxborough. Come on, talent at all costs is the key. Spend, spend, spend, except up in New England. Strict adherence of Cap responsibility, focus on draft pick acquisition, and player development is a road to ruin in all but one locale.

Belichick and his staff maintaining positional flexibility, scheme diversity, quality game planning, and half-time adjustments is just a shiny cherry on top of the supernatural reason for the Patriots success.

Avalon, El Dorado, Camelot, and Shangri-La ain’t got nuttin’ on New England!

This extra-large helping of sarcasm is meant to highlight a point… not the reality of the Dolphins situation. Without even one game of film to examine, no one can say what the reality is. Soon we’ll get an indication. But as of today, it’s anyone’s guess.

The second reality is that this particular process (in its major themes) is one that’s tried and true.

Don Shula, Jimmy Johnson, and Bill Belichick all dogmatically held to their process and became legends. While slightly different in theme (and the fiscal aspects and focus on draft picks as the NFL evolved), these coaches shared many core principles for their teams: character and intelligence as top traits, along with toughness, discipline, strong defense, and a run game.

They all bucked the trends in some fashion and took over bad teams.

Yes, only the cream of the crop in Head Coaching can make this type of process succeed when applied unswervingly. The lessers must use cheats along the way to compensate. Still, the bottom line: You can’t fault the process in of itself...

… And you can’t fault the coaching or a team till you’ve seen them in a live game.

So far, too many writers have quickly devolved into calling Flores a sell-out, company man, idiot, and now liar… even though they have prayed, across multiple Dolphins regimes, for the Phins to have a team that operates like New England.

Has it ever crossed their minds that Flores might be able to navigate the path of brilliance? If not, why? Yes, the road less traveled usually ends in disaster, but is it too much to allow him even one step before the mockery begins?

It’s a sure sign of a cynical age.

I’m all for riding Frankenstein out of town with torches (Philbin and Gase) once the monster strangles the child (Phins), but not before. Maybe all this derision of Grier and Flores is deserved (that’s the most likely scenario). But, then again maybe not. That’s why they play the game. No?

The Ravens have destroyed the Dolphins over the last decade by winning 7 out of the last 8 games. Their wins have been marked by physical and mental domination of the Phins.

The pay per head services sites like AcePerHead.com, have the Ravens at -7 in Miami, so the expectation is another aqua mauling. Writers, let us get one game in before we pass judgment, soup to nuts, on this regime. You never know, Flores might be a man of character… and a quality Head Coach. Maybe the ‘Rob Ninkovich’ effect can translate? I say if you are going to write about it, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Predicting the Dolphins success and getting it wrong is one type of eating crow… but assassinating a good man’s character in print and being wrong is whole other level. Go Phins!!!

Understand what you are saying But I feel that our 1st picked must be the best QB on the board. Which would be Tua.

Admin I truely believed we need to draft two QBs in the next draft. Because the Talent is there! Once again here’s another QB who will be around after the 1st or second round.

Maybe the Biggest College Game this weekend: Texas A&M may upset Clemson tomorrow.
College Quarterbacks to watch tomorrow Kellen Mond Texas A&M playing QB Trevor Lawrence Clemson (Lawrence was a freshman last season, he will be 2021 number one picked.

quarterback Kellen Mond He’s currently ranked as the #3 qb in the SEC behind Tua Tagavailoa and Jake Fromm

This is my guess, but, Beli never used their 1st Round pick on a QB Jimmy G was the highest with #62. I still think that this team believes in their scheme A LOT. Now if they do tank, then they are breaking their process from NE and I will have to rethink everything about this process, regime, and especially Flores. And if they don’t win at least 6 games, then he isn’t a brilliant football mind. Either I’m fooling myself or my gut is telling me he is brilliant and iron-willed. I really like the ‘him’ presented until the media began to paint another picture. Chances are I’m just fooling myself… but tomorrow will give plenty of evidence either way.

The Miami Dolphins had the right idea going after Jimmy Johnson. Dave Wanstedt was descent until Ricky bailed on the team. Nick Saban went back to coaching college.

The late Dolphin Coached Tony Rosalno forgive spelling got a playoff seasoned win ETC.

The patriots are unique simply because they surrounded A great QB with a team. Meaning they all did their jobs. Too many teams just will not develop a well balanced team.

Dan Marino did not failed the Miami Dolphins! The Miami Dolphins failed Marino by not having a well balanced team. Or Marino would have two hand full of Super bowl Rings.

Coach Flores is not a New England Patriots any more. He’s the Coach of the Miami Dolphins. He is the best coach for us, let’s be real we can have two losing season before this foundation is build to adapt and overcome to survive in the NFL.

We have the opportunity to draft two Quarterbacks in 2020, This 2020 draft will be heavy with QB’s in The 2nd and 3rd rounds ETC. We have a Qb in the 1st round already.

Yeah I know linemen they will come. If we can develop four pro bowl lineman by 2021 we are headed in the right direction. The running back for Wisconsin college we should watch this season.

Steve, I think this regime is more like you than you realize. I don’t think they are aiming for these top QBs. I think they think, like Belichick, that the scheme is a major piece to a player’s success. I think they believe this at all positions. I think they believe these moves are helping both the future and present. This is exactly of Bill does and people howl at him every year. Now, will what they believe prove out to be a reality on the field? That’s my only question. This is why I have six wins pegged… it would mean they matched a 2018 team that spent to the hilt in its third year. If they can gut the team and have all this ammo for the future and get at least 6… that means this staff coached the team up. If Miami is disciplined, physical, coaches well, and keeps a loss within 6 points, then I’ll have a good feeling. If they are blown out… then, I will change my tune. Honestly, in this run heavy scheme, Tunsil wasn’t the best fit… you couldn’t turn down all those picks.

The Tunsil and Stills trade coupled with the cuts made to the defensive line clearly illustrates that Flores is only a figurehead. Trading your best lineman, a left tackle, is unforgivable. Additionally, Tunsil was a bargain. I just don’t believe Flores agreed to this trade. We got rid of our DL depth, as well. This handicaps the thin LB corps and puts way too much pressure on the secondary.

We have a journeyman bench and will not be able to contest control of line of scrimmage most of the game on offense or defense. They might as well trade Rosen and both Fitzpatricks too.

“The Tunsil and Stills trade coupled with the cuts made to the defensive line clearly illustrates that Flores is only a figurehead. ” Have to disagree on the have to.
Stills isn’t much of a loss. Tunsil, while a very talented passblocker wasn’t ranked as a top 20 LT. I think he will improve, but hi run blocking has always been bad… and this offense is a run-heavy scheme. It is obviously a step back in the OLine talent, but Davenport isn’t as bad as his PFF grade… when you watch his tape improve over the 16 games. Also, the Texan O-scheme and Watson make it the job of O-linemen much, much harder. Taylor is a surprise on both ends… he wasn’t even picked up by one team on the starting roster… he’s on the Bills practice squad… that says a lot. I’ll know most of what I need to know after Week 1… but, I’m not ready to step off the edge of the cliff yet.

Would you like to make a wager on who will make the play offs this season the Dolphins or Tunsil and Stills?

        • admin

Not much of a fair wager considering the Texan made the playoffs and Dolphins didn’t. A better bet is will Tunsil or Stills get them to the SB in the next 2 years or will the Dolphins end up with the better end of the deal with the 3 picks. Texans might make the playoffs, but doubt they even get to the divisional round. They need to at least get in the conference game for it to be worth it. You of all people should value the vast treasure trove of picks Miami received and understand the Texans mortgaged the future to get both players. Long run the chances are Miami wins this one.
