Statement Signing

football gambling

The Dolphins will be entering the 2015 free-agent signing period with only a few million dollars worth of cap room, but they have many players on the roster that will, and should be released, which will quickly add necessary cap room for the Dolphins to make a run at a prized free agent. Below is a list of some of the top free agents to hit the market in March:

DeMarco Murray RB   Demaryius Thomas WR   Dez Bryant WR    Julius Thomas TE    Mike Iupati G    Jason Pierre-Paul DE

Ndamukong Suh DT    Justin Houston OLB    Rolando McClain ILB   Darrelle Revis CB  Devin McCourty S    Justin Tucker K

Any of these players on this list would immediately be an upgrade at each position for the Dolphins. Obviously the Dolphins have a few important needs such as Linebacker, Defensive Tackle, Guard, Corner Back, Safety, and Wide Receiver. The Dolphins can probably afford, and try to make a full-court press on one of these above players.

I would love to get Bryant or Demaryius and then get rid of Hartline, Gibson, and Wallace, but most football gambling fans are betting that the Cowboys and Broncos are going to try extremely hard to keep their respective players. The Cowboys will have a very tough decision, and probably will not be able to afford to keep Murray and Bryant, but sources are telling me they are leaning more on keeping Bryant than Murray. Miami is not going to go after Murray considering they have Miller and can find a running back in the upcoming draft.

The two most sensible players to chase after on this list would be Suh and Iupati. Both will fill huge holes and would immediately upgrade the offensive or defensive line units. Today I would like to focus on the benefits of Suh, but another day we will go over the benefits of Iupati.

Suh is going to demand a huge contract, and the Lions could decide to put the franchise tag on him, but that would cost them around $26 million just for the 2015 season. Most Free Bookie Software fans would wager that the Lions are not going to allocate that much money to Suh this season, so either they need to find a way to resign him for a massive amount of money, or to let him test the free-agent market.

Assuming the Lions will let him test the market, then Miami needs to be one of the teams in the bidding. Suh is one of the best, and if not the best defensive tackles in the game. He had 53 tackles last year and 8.5 sacks and constantly needed two players to block him. He has a reputation around the league for being a dirty player, however, I think a more fair assessment is that he is a tenacious player with a lot of passion for the game, but sometimes lets his emotions cloud his decision making. In addition, Suh spearheaded a rush defense that was ranked first in the league and was only allowing 69.3 yards per game, which was 10 yards better than the 2nd ranked Broncos (79.8). Compare that to a Miami team that was ranked 24th worst against the run and allowed 121.1 yards per game on the ground.

Suh will immediately make Miami better against the run, and he also gives them an extra quality pass rusher in the middle of the trenches, which is not something that is easy to find. This would also mean that Miami can release both Starks and Odrick, but still be able to get better at the position. The biggest issue on defense at the moment for the Dolphins is stopping the run, so why not go after the biggest and best DT in the free-agent market, and fix their biggest problem with a signature on a check with a bunch of zeros on it?
