Staying Positive As Phins Face Bills

It’s been a long season already… let’s talk about some Phins positives

The Dolphins almost picked up their first win of the season–almost. But the 4th QTR heroics of Ryan Fitzpatrick made it entertaining right to the buzzer. While some think the Phins should have kicked the extra point, at least Coach Flores showed that he is trying to win games. A well-timed onside kick (again a penalty nullified it), benching his starting quarterback to give the team a spark and going for two instead of kicking the extra point for the tie, shows Flores wants to win.

First of all, I love the aggressiveness. Even though all the per head solutions sites say this is a lost year for Miami, at least they’re playing without fear of losing. Sure, throwing a pass behind the line of scrimmage on the two-point conversion was a head-scratcher, but Flores did go for the throat.

The good news is we now have the tiebreaker with the Skins. At least in the loss, the Phins will have a better draft position if both teams end 2019 with the same record.

This season is what it is. Fighting this reality will only frustrate fans.

Going forward Flores & Co. will play loose, be aggressive since they don’t have to worry about making the playoffs. That edge could make them more competitive.

Phins v.s. Bills up in Buffalo

The Dolphins are another double-digit underdog this weekend against a 4-1 Bills team in Buffalo. Even when Buffalo has been bad, they have still played us well and over the last two years winning three of the last four games.

Miami has had a lot of problems with running QBs. While Josh Allen isn’t the most accurate passer, he is one of the better running QBs in the league. But the biggest issue for the Dolphins is the Bills defense, which is ranked 4th best in points, allowing only 13.8 per game. For a Phins team that is only scoring 8.4 points per game (less than 4 points the average of any other team in the league), it’s hard to expect much from them traveling up to Buffalo this week.

No wonder Rosen was benched for Fitzpatrick.

Coach Jimmy Bourbon says: “How about every time we score our first touchdown, we just go for two points?” Up until recently, the Steelers liked to go for the 2pt conversion early. Sure touchdowns are going to be at a premium for the Dolphins this season, but why not be aggressive and just go for two?  Worst case we don’t make it and only score 6 points. Given the solid percentages of making 2pt conversions, if we miss it early we can just go for two again if we score a 2nd touchdown.

Why not… maybe some good will come from staying aggressive.

Let’s take a look at some positive storylines so far this season

You see, it’s not all bad. Right?! Maybe some more good news will come as the season goes on. With eleven games left, there’s plenty of 2019 Season still to come.

Hopefully, we can keep it respectable this week because a close game is much more fun to watch. Unfortunately, the odds aren’t in our favor this week… but that’s why they play the game.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fan’s thoughts about this upcoming game?
