After all the distractions last week, Joe Philbin and the Miami Dolphins finally did what Phins fans have been waiting all season for them to do; play all around good football. Tannehill finally stepped up and had a productive game throwing for 278 yards, 2 touchdowns, no sacks, a QB rating of 94, and even added 35 yards on the ground. The Defense finally got their hands on some passes and had 3 interceptions and one fumble recovery. Lastly the special teams cover unit did a very good job covering punt and kick off returns. Even though most football gambling fans would say Oakland is one of the worst teams in the league, a win is still a win, and it was important that the Phins showed the fans and themselves that they have the capability to be a decent team.
Tannehill finally had some time to throw the ball, and clearly looked more comfortable in the pocket, and did a very good job spreading the ball around to his various offensive weapons. Lazor also helped Tannehill out by finally opening up the play book, and even letting Tannehill use his legs to make some plays. The key now for Tannehill and the Dolphins is to build off this victory and continue to play consistent fundamental football. The receivers also did a good job helping Tannehill, by actually catching the football.
The Defense also finally showed they learned how to tackle, and held the Raiders running game to a mere 53 yards, and linebackers Trusnik and Jenkins continued to play well, and provide some disruptions in the opponent’s backfield. Also the secondary who had failed to get their hands on any footballs this season, woke up against the Raiders, with Aikens, Grimes and Wilson all contributing interceptions.
Lamar Miller has done a very good job filling in for the injured Moreno, however he needs to stop coughing up the ball. He had two touchdowns but easily could have had a third if he did not fumble the ball on the goal line. He has definitely been more productive and explosive this season, but he has to work on holding on to the ball, because in a close game that could be the difference between winning and losing.
The Dolphins will get the chance to rest up this following week, with a much needed bye. This will give them a chance to have players like Pouncey, Starks, McCain, and Misi to have some time to rest and hopefully become healthy enough to be able to play against the Packers in two weeks. In addition they will also have the advantage of Jones and Jordan getting two solid weeks of practice under their belts, since their suspensions have now been completely served. It will be interesting to see what the Dolphins can do with a more complete and healthy team.
