This sounds crazy but the Phins might be able to win 10 this season

I know this is going to sound entirely optimistic and should be taken with a grain of salt coming from a biased phins fan, but I think the Miami Dolphins have an outside shot of winning double digit games this year. Before the mob of phins news fans gets their pitchforks and demands for Jimmy Bourbon’s execution based on the parameters of excessive optimism that leads to stupidity, lets do a breakdown of the upcoming schedule.

Week 1 – Houston Texans away – The Texans are a very good football team, and will probably have no problem winning the AFC south this year. Also this is still the only NFL team that the Miami Dolphins have never defeated, and sadly they will probably come away from the first game of the season with a defeat. (0-1)

Week 2 – Oakland Raiders home – Since 1997 the Dolphins have faced the Raiders 11 times and have won 9 times. They have pretty much owned this team, and should be able to defeat them at home with the advantage of the 1pm scorching Miami heat. (1-1)

Week 3 and 8 – New York Jets – Division games are always close, and these two teams, always play tight entertaining games. Throw in the Tony Sparano leading the Jets offense with some wildcat plays, and these should be some very hyped up games. I think it is fair that we assume that the season series will be a split decision, one game apiece. (2-2)

Week 4 – Arizona Cardinals away – The Cardinals are a very similar team to the Dolphins, with an unsettled quarterback situation and a decent defense. This is definitely a game the Dolphins can win, so it will be reasonable to say they can come away with a victory here. (3-2)

Week 5 – Cincinnati Bengals away – The Bengals are a decent football team, but again this team falls into a the category of a team that shouldn’t scare the phins news fans. This is the type of team that will be fighting for a wild card playoff spot with the Dolphins, and if the phins have any chance of making the playoffs this is the type of team they must beat. (This could be a make or break game in the season.) I’ll have faith in the aqua and orange and say they win this in a close game. (4-2)

Week 6 – St. Louis Rams home – The Rams are a young team, similar to the Dolphins, but again a team the Dolphins can easily beat, if playing up to their potential. (5-2)

Week 9 – Indianapolis Colts away – We will get to see Andrew Luck in action, and only wonder what could have been, if we did not come alive at the end of last season and win ourselves out of the contention of drafting him. The phins have to win this game. (6-2)

Week 10 – Tennessee Titans home – The Titans are another team like the Cardinals that resemble the Dolphins, and are a team that the Dolphins can beat. Yes, my inner Dolphin fan is basically saying the teams they should beat they will beat. (7-2) (So after 10 weeks of the season though mind boggling, it is conceivable that the Dolphins could be 7-2.)

Week 11 and 16 – Buffalo Bills – The Bills beefed up their defensive line, and will be getting back a lot of players that suffered injuries last season. They are primed for a successful season, but again being a division foe, it is reasonable that they will split the season series. (8-3)

Week 12 – Seattle Seahawks home – Again another team that fits into the ‘should be able to beat them category.’ Also I may have given the Seahawks the nod here if the game was in Seattle, but since it is in Miami I will allow myself to believe they will win this game. (9-3)

Week 13 and 17 – New England Patriots – I will be a realist, and even though they are division rivals, I will succumb to the fact that the Patriots are the cream of the crop in the AFC, and they will probably be too much for the Dolphins to handle. The phins will play tough but lets be safe and say they lose both games. (9-5)

Week 14 – San Francisco 49ers away – Lets face it the 49ers are going to be very good this year, and it would be wise to believe that the Dolphins will come up short in this game. (9-6)

Week 15 – Jacksonville Jaguars home – These guys are not a very good football team, and if Maurice Jones-Drew sits out over a contract issue, then this team will be the worst team in the league. Phins win this game. (10-6)

So honestly fans can laugh at my football betting prediction of the Dolphins winning 10 games this season, but with a favorable schedule, and a little luck this might not be a dream. So what does the phins new nation think?

Jimmy, I am no columnist but I do pride myself in knowing how to write. And when you open your statement with “I know this sounds crazy…” I don’t know if it’s the song “Call Me Maybe” coming out of your mouth or you are “REALLY DREAMING” about a double digit season. like the gal, Carly Jepsen, that sings “Call Me Maybe” having her lawn boy fantasy yet crash and burn before her very eyes. I know enough that you need to reassess. Just because the Dolphin Cheerleaders broke out LIP-SYNCHING this song and this is a rage right now, but I believe in as many chances as their is breath in my lungs. I say delete the initial story get real objective first from the fan base to and gamers that know their team as they reallly are and write from that perspective.

No problem, your entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine. Call me crazy but I like to go into each season with some optimism. The schedule is definitely as weak as when Tony Sparano took over a 1-15, and turned them into an 11-5 team the next season. That 1-15 team was bad, I think we have a strong nucleus than that team. Anything is possible. Yes I like your idea about getting real objective, but honestly with no games to grade the coaches on at the moment, I am going to sway on the optimistic side and have faith that this regime may finally turn this franchise around. Now granted if the season begins with a lot bonehead decisions being made by the coaching staff, then I will be the first one to be critical of them. But for the moment until I see the finished product start playing the games, I would like to have some faith. I have been a fan for 25 years, we are all on the same side here. Not sure what you meant by having pride in your writing, and then making a remark about my opening statement. I am admitting before hand that this might seem far fetched, but when you go through the schedule it is conceivable to go 10-6. Either way I appreciate your time and feed back, and hope you still check us out when the real action begins. We are going to do sports gambling picks for each game, not sure if you are a gambler yourself?

Sorry,I will stick with my same prediction I had last year when friends called me crazy.I am 61 yrs old and have been a fan since this team started.I think 7-9,maybe 8-8….we are in a tougher division than most people think.I’m sorry I’m still not sold on our clueless owner and GM that were non existent in F/A,you can’t build a winning team from drafting rookies alone.Next issue, how many QB’s have we been through since Marino,17? And I’m not sold on any current ones, yes Moore had some good moments but still folds under pressure when making quick reads.Next issue, check stats and watch film,we are famous for being vulnerable against the pass on crossing routes and down the seams.Where is our true Free Safety, which we have also lacked in. Right side offensive line…..jury still out……..this all being said…..hope my beloved team proves me wrong but I dont see it.

Pappy, I totally agree with you, I am definitely being generously optimistic on the 10-6, and it will most likely end with the 8-8 record you mentioned. Yes our division is tough, and I think we probably go 2-4 in the the division, but the weak schedule could help us to goose the record like we did when Sparano took over in his first year. Yeah I am past the point with Ireland, I was hoping he got canned with the rest of the old regime, but he most have some scandalous photos of Ross in some compromising positions. But as much as Ireland makes head scratching moves he hits it on a couple like Bush, Vontae Davis, Davone Bess, Hartline, Dansby, Burnett. (please dont take this as me supporting him though, plus I probably butchered some of these player names.) Yeah I think we have 16 with Matt Moore, and Im not so sure Tannehill will be the answer but I hope so. I think Reshad Jones has potential to be a solid free safety, (check out the article I wrote about him) Yeah the line as been a carousel ride for a while (what I always thought was a joke was that Sparano’s supposed specialty was the offensive line, and we know who he messed with that.) And now Philbin has a specialty in the offensive line as well, lets hope he can do a better job. I hope they can prove us wrong

Hey markymark thanks for the comments much appreciated. We will be trying to get at least 5 posts a week, hopefully one every day, if you enjoy them feel free to subscribe so you can be alerted when we have new posts.

    thanks again

I think the Titans-49ers should be flipped. SF is not that good of a team.

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Really, I think San Fran has a good shot of winning the whole thing this year. Stingy bone crushing defense, hard nosed running game, and they pick up some WR help this off season

  • markymark

Ten wins???? I would love to see it but I’m not sold on it…being realistic with so much change with coaching staff, new offensive system, new qb….lotta question marks…can’t listen to fools who always demand way to much to fast sometimes..

    • Jimmy Bourbon

I know 10 wins seems like a lot for this franchise at the moment, but its kind of comparable to when Tony Sparano took over in his first year and they went 11-5 with a big help from a soft schedule. You have to admit the schedule can be considered an advantage this year.

  • markymark

Next. Years nfl draft I see miami drafting a pair of wideouts possibly…hopefully we are good at safety this year..

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Yeah i agree, i think we waited to long to draft a wr in this years draft, hopefully a guy like Roberto Wallace, who always seems to standout during OTA can finally parlay that into getting playing time. Did you check out my article about Reshad Jones, i think he could be a surprise player for us at safety. what do you think?

  • markymark

Time for clyde gates to step up big…also charles clay…wallace and moore at wr, their time is now! Also time sean smith steps up! I do like the growth of vontae davis every year a lot.

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Yeah definitely agree on Vontae, as long as he can stay healthy he has potential to be a shut down corner back. Smith has potential I just wish he had better hands to pick of passes. And sometimes he loses his focus and gives up the back breaking play. Did you check out the Charles Clay article, I really think he is going to thrive in Philbin’s offense. I hate to say it but I dont think Gates is going to make the team

  • markymark

We have to face we ourselves have an unsettled qb situation, also a brand new system on offense and defense..then let’s don’t downplay we have big holes to fill at wideout …hopefully we see guys like moore, wallace, clyde gates all step up..

    • Jimmy Bourbon

Yes I agree, the QB spot has depth, but is definitely lacking elite talent. I think the one thing that might cover up our weakness in the WR department is usiing Reggie to catch passes out of the back field, he could he easily grab 60-80 balls this season. Also I think Charles Clay and Fasano will get a lot of balls on seam routes. More importantly we need someone to emerge as a red zone threat, and at the moment im not sure who that will be. Who do think will emerge Mark? This sounds crazy but I would have liked to have taken a shot at Plaxico over Ocho cinco, because Plaxico for all is negatives, is money in the red zone, good for 6-8 TDs a season

  • phinfreak

NFW….fins .500 at best first year. They lose to Bengals, Titans, and you’re underestimating the Cards, Kolb will have a better year and its an away game out west, not a place fins do well historically.

    • Jimmy Bourbon

haha, yeah I know it is an optimistic vision, but those three games are the make or break for the phins. Hey being a Dolphin fan I am leaning on the upside, but it is not unthinkable. I mean I can accept defeat to the Pats, twice, 49ers, Texans, and even splits with Jets and Bills, but the rest of the games we have a chance. They are winnable games, and will make the difference in going 7-9, or 10-6.
