Tough task for the Defense

football gambling

This upcoming Sunday the Dolphins will travel up North to face the Chicago Bears. The Bears are a good team, but as their 3-3 record suggests they are a beatable team. The Bears have similar consistency issues, however it will be up to the Dolphins Defense to create problems for Jay Cutler and the rest of the Bears offense.

This “biggest” task for the Dolphin defense is finding a way to defend against the Bears’ tall wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Marshall is 6’4” and Jeffery is 6’3” and Brent Grimes is a generous 5’10”. Not only is Marshall big, but most football gambling fans would say that he is going to play with a little bit extra spunk against his former team. Luckily for Miami, the secondary has done a very good job so far on opposing receivers, so this game will be a strength versus strength in this facet of the game.

The Bears also have a very good passing catching Tight End in Martellus Bennett, who is also big and physical with 36 receptions and 4 touchdowns already this season. The Linebackers are going to have their hands full with Bennett all day, especially in the red-zone.

Lastly the Bears have a very versatile running back in Matt Forte who is a beast catching passes out of the backfield. He already has 46 receptions this season, which leads the league for all running backs. So between Bennett and Forte the linebackers are going to have to really concentrate on covering running backs and tight ends, and maybe not blitzing as much. We have a solid defensive line that gets a steady pass rush on the opposing QB, and it might be a good idea to just allow them to rush the QB, and not send linebackers blitzing, which will leave Forte floating free in the flats. The best way to help out the secondary is by having a steady pass rush from the D-linemen and making Cutler uncomfortable in the pocket.

I would consider Cutler a poor man’s Brett Favre, who is a gun slinger that likes to just throw the ball up and hope it does not get intercepted. He already has 6 interceptions this season, and if the Dolphins can get in his face, then there is a good chance that the Dolphins will be able to cause a couple of interceptions.

What does the rest of the phins fans think about the Dolphins chances of shutting down the Bears big and physical passing attack?
