Tua? Rosen… Nah. Fitzpatrick!

Fitzpatrick will start the 2020 Season… but can he make magic?

The Miami Dolphins added a ton of players in Free Agency and the draft and will have a lot more talent than last season. Phins General Manager Chris Grier spent over $200 million and used 15 draft picks on the players felt fit their scheme and culture. Now it will be up to Head Coach Brian Flores and his staff to get these newcomers coached-up into a quality team. But, the main storyline will be all about the play of the quarterback position and whether Tua, Rosen, or Fitzpatrick will start.

The biggest addition this offseason was Tua Tagovalio, who had one of the best college football careers of any QB in history. We all know the major durability concern and major hip surgery. The foregone conclusion is he won’t play until 2021.

Tua or Fitzpatrick… Rosen is a back-up of some sort

But there’s a good chance Tua does play at some point in the 2020 season because of his immense talent and Miami used their top-pick on him. Also, even if someone else starts injuries can even call up the third-string QB.

Some of the best bookie software solutions already have a line out on the Dolphins starting QB Week 1.  Ryan Fitzpatrick is the heavy favorite at -550, with Tua at +370, and Rosen at +2500. Just from that alone, it’s pretty obvious that the betting world believes Miami is going to take its time with Tua and not rush him onto the field.

After what Fitzpatrick did last season, he has earned the right to start the upcoming season. Funny how he also performed so well he played us out of the #1 pick. Fitzpatrick still has to earn and keep the job, so anything is possible. It will be interesting to see how these odds change when Miami finally gets back on the field and the season progresses. If Tua can actually make this a legitimate competition over the summer, then the odds will reflect that with his price of +370 going down.

You should hope Rosen does well and creates some trade value! On a side note, the NFL is so crazy that Rosen could actually end up the starter at some point. Imagine that?!

I hope Fitzpatrick starts, so we can see what he’ll do with a revamped offensive line and run game. If Fitz can play like last season, maybe a playoff hunt happens this season?

Yes, I said playoffs!

This team has improved dramatically from a talent perspective. I’m not saying they are elite, but they had 5 wins last year with nearly 2 more. How many wins are added from the growth of last year’s squad and the addition of talent? Also, don’t forget that there will be one extra playoff wild card spot this year with the new playoff format. An 8-8 team could very well get into the playoffs. Is it crazy to think that we could be one of those teams fighting for one of the 3 wild card spots?!

Regardless of who ends up earning the starting QB job next year, Phins fans should have a really good show this year with no unhappy endings. It was one helluva’ busy offseason and it sure looks like the Phins are headed in the right direction!

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ thoughts of who will start this season? What hopes do you have for the Phins in 2020?

WOW the player we spent a top 5 pick on wont give us anything this year top 5 pick are expected to contribute sooner than later just an observation
TANKING WITH TUA!!!!!fan for over 50 years love my dolphins

I hated the Green pick… And Tua could end up with a similar situation. The position is different and the medical tech is too, so he could also not be a replay. I think he’s going to get coached hard about being a pocket passer. I think they’ll delay his entry and build a good run game and oline. Look at how little pressure Brady had… with the right moves they can replicate that type of minimal pressure. BUT, I am also very concerned over his injury history. I wanted Simmons… but I’m not a river boat roller of the dice.

Hey, Bruce the system Jimmy has over here makes me approve first time posters. If he were another position I’d be a bit unhappy. But, given the value of QB and if Tua develops right and stays healthy, I’m not. Tua’s value will be based good and bad on his long term value. With Fitz and Rosen, I’m fine. Fitz gives them the best opportunity to win this year, and Rosen playing well gives them a chance to create good trade value. So, I’m totally fine with Tua sitting… AS LONG as he plays next year and ends up with a quality career… if not, it’s a big loss for the Phins, especially if Rosen does nothing as well. Two very valuable picks would have been wasted.

Time for the NFL to take notes as too how the New Patriots obtain another solid quarterback?

Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer on the roster, the Patriots
signing two undrafted free agents, according to NFL.com.
The two are J’Mar Smith out of Louisiana Tech and Brian Lewerke out of Michigan State.
    Quick Breakdown: J’Mar Smith

Smith was a three-year starter at Louisiana Tech, where he improved markedly each season. He won Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, during a season in which he completed 62% of his passes, with 18 TDs and five picks. https://youtu.be/KC-i1rz2_sc?t=35

Smith has some scrambling ability, but only rushed for 245 yards in college.
    Quick Breakdown: Brian Lewerke
Lewerke was highly touted entering the 2017 season as a Pro Style quarterback with a solid arm. He delivered in his first year under center, but then suffered an injury to his throwing arm and had two uneven seasons with the Spartans. https://youtu.be/Lkug-NdH8fM?t=31
Was he hurt? Did the team not surround him with enough weapons? Did he just regress? All possibilities, and the Patriots will be hoping they can bank on natural ability and give him the right situation under which to thrive in New England.

***Could it be possible that the Patriot plan to tank 2020 for Clemson Quarterback Trevor Lawrence?

Someone said somewhere that if Bill tanks and Brady does well it would be a hit on his legacy. Maybe? Maybe not. We’ll see… I just hope Tua can stay healthy…

I thought Andy Dalton would have signed with the Patriots?

    Adam Schefter

    @AdamSchefter
Former Bengals’ QB Andy Dalton is signing a one-year deal worth up to $7 million that includes $3 million guaranteed with the Dallas Cowboys, source tells ESPN.
    Dalton is returning to Texas.

Tua needs to learn and let the new O-line gel. Fitz should have a good year. Rosen never sees the field. Tua should play after mid season if healthy.

The big question is how effective will the running game be.

Honestly, I don’t want Tua playing unless he comes in as a 3rd string. Most likely is Rosen sucks and Tua comes in… but, is that the best scenario long term? Tua need to really be ready and he’ll be less than a year removed from the injury… just doesn’t sound like the smartest move. I’d prefer he takes the whole year to suck it all in and fully recover and for the O to gell and add more talent. Again, I admit, this is the least likely scenario…

Happy May 1st to all fans. Is it idiocy to hope that Rosen is traded to a needful team and that we get a 4-5th round pick for him ? Interestingly, I haven’t read one word attributed to Rosen in the last year ? I too hope that Fitzpatrick takes up where he left off last year and excels again this year. To my mind, there will surely be more weeding-out among all positions, but even more so within the ranks of the WR’s, DB’s, and those we haven’t even begun to watch yet. No predictions here, but high hopes and prayers sent up for good things happening this football season.

Same to you, sir! I don’t think Rosen is done. And, in truth, he should have a good chance to fight for spot #2. He is a vet with an inside track of the team. If he can’t even make it close, then he is a career backup. I think Fitz will… hope he will. I still want Tua to sit this year… and only play if he comes in as the 3rd QB. It’s the best for the long term view.

    Only time will tell
If tua doesn’t play first year
Plays coming of the bench if needed
    I’m okay with that
Who ever gets the nod to start
Matters not to me, of the other qbs
    Go fins

My feeling is that give Tua a full year to heal, see the NFL game speed live, learn the O, settle in with zero pressure, and learn to Brees it up more than Wilson. Another year of settling in can only help. Let him wear the red shirt in practice (like all QBs) and throw so he isn’t rusty. I just think he should go in at the most optimal time… now if he’s the 3rd QB and is needed… okay. I’m more conservative though in my approach… doesn’t mean it the right approach though…
