Okay, we are hearing the mantra “TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH”! Okay, that means we are going to run the football, play the power game, and enforce our will – at least a portion of the time. Gone is Clay, so no H-back or fullback – Yes fullbacks are dinosaurs, but even Bellicheat uses them. Currently, we must find our toughness from a 3 wide set or double tight-ends. Hmmmmm, I’ll buy Sims as a blocker at near 270, but “Stone” and Jordan? A slot back won’t always force the Nickle D and can’t work the inside on short-yardage situations…So what is our play on filling the void?
James Casey, an H-back/ FB, was just cut by the Broncos…we need him, or someone like him, to enforce his will on LB’s and SS in order to make this “TOUGH” mantra come true. I’m not saying it’s “teacup time” and a cloud of dust like the Parcells days, but someone inside or on the perimeter from the skill position must set the edge or spread the hole. I believe in our backs, but none are Barry or Peterson and we need someone hammering their cap between the defenders’ numbers saying, “Wake up son, it’s game time.”

Let’s say Albert is back…okay, he’s one on one as is James; the three inside (2 guards and center) are dealing with two interior defenders (Pouncey or Jamil can’t handle a DT on their own); Sims picks up SLB – who else do you trust as a blocker? And God forbid Sims is dinged or goes down -again. He’s had a severe concussion, so you really don’t know what the effects of it will be this season. If Miami wants to curtail its finesse ball then they need the horses to run it. It will be interesting to see who will step up or be found to fill this limited, yet essential void in this new ‘Phins persona.
