Was Flores Miami Pro Day Show Telling?

Kyle Pitts looked incredible, but Flores also went to the Miami Pro Day

How telling was Brian Flores showing up at the University of Miami Pro Day? Well, given last year’s draft, there’s a good chance Miami will select at least select one of these hometown boys early in the 2021 Draft. Yes, Kyle Pitts had an amazing Pro Day and Flores also attended the Gators’ Pro Day. Clearly, Pitts will go to Miami at #6–if he is still there. But, the Dolphins also have the 18th and 36th Overall pick as well…

… and one of these Hurricane players fits perfectly with the Phins 2nd or 3rd selection.

We wrote correctly last year that because Brian Flores worked out some Auburn players personally that the chances were high one would get selected by Miami. We are rinsing and repeating this sentiment this year. Add in all the new restrictions on player / FO interactions with this year’s draftees due to Covid, and the value of every extra drop of one-on-one meetings is sky-high. And you know how much Brian Flores craves personal knowledge about what he is buying.

Pitts at #6!… But, what about #18 or 36th?

Flores has proven to be a creature of habit with the high value he puts on familiarity with a player. This habit is clearly evident from the multiple players Miami has signed because either Flores coached them in New England or some former coach he has worked with before has coached them. This ‘familiarity trait’ IS pretty common among most NFL coaches who prefer to add players and coaches they have worked with before…

… But, Flores seems to have this trait a little more acutely than most.

So far, it’s been a winner.

In the 2020 Draft, the Phins used a 1st Round pick on Auburn Corner Noah Igbinoghene, who had a private workout with Flores. So, Flores attending the Hurricanes’ Pro Day means at least one of these prospects is firmly on the Phins’ radar. Advantages of Using Casino Software.

Who is Miami aiming for with 18th… or early 2nd RD pick?

The obvious prospects that stand out the most are the three Miami pass rushers: Gregory Rousseau, Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche. Both Phillips and Rousseau could be 1st or 2nd Round picks, depending on how things shake out. Roche is pegged as a possible 3rd round selection. There are mock drafts out there that have Miami using the 18th pick on Rousseau. However, some analyst believe that Phillips is the best of this trio.

Rousseau didn’t play in 2020 but in 2019 he had 15.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. Phillips in 2020 had 8 sacks and 1 interception, while Roche had 4.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. All showed they can have an impact on the game.

There is no mystery that a strong Dolphins need is a pass rusher, especially since they let Van Noy go and traded away Lawson, who combined for 10 sacks last year and 3 forced fumbles. Miami already proved last year that they can get to the QB based on scheme, instead of just having one dominant pass rusher. But, Miami needs to add more quality pass rushers after losing 24% of their sack production from last year with the loss of Lawson and Van Noy.

So, it’s not a matter of if but when will Miami add some more edge talent.

Pass rush is the engine to impact defense

You don’t need the best bookie software to know that getting to the quarterback drives the secondary to greater success. Even the best coverage breaks down when a QB has enough time to read and throw. Pressure creates turnovers and limits big pass plays, while it also leads to sacks and interceptions that can flip the course of a game on a dime.

Clearly, Flores has a strength as a defensive coach, so even though on paper the Dolphins must improve the defense even if they go heavy on offense. You can bet that if he sees someone he really likes on defense Miami will pull the trigger on a defensive player early. How to Choose the Best Casino Software?
