Chop is a stud! A stud tackle would have been stellar though!
The Miami Dolphins looked to be in a prime position to have the option to land a few excellent players early in the draft especially after the Falcons surprisingly chose Michael Penix Jr. 8th Overall. But, offensive tackles and key defensive players all came off the board one after another starting with the Jets picking 11th until only Chop Robinson was left. This isn’t to say Chop is chop liver. The kid can play football and is a freak talent, so despite being a raw prospect, he offers a ton of value in his current form and even more if he develops.
Chop had a 40.5 vertical jump at 247 lbs and this metric has a rough correlation to burst. Even a blind man can see ‘special’ when Chop fires off the line. The kid seems to have a great personality and appears to have a good head on his shoulders that would lend toward him working to get better. In a vacuum Chop is a stud athlete who helps us short term filling in until Chubb and Phillips, and longer-term if he can develop his skillset and be the guy to replace Chubb. You can never have too much edge talent, but Miami must compete at a high level this season, and having a ton of edge talent won’t help with blocking on the offensive side of the ball.
The Dolphins need offensive line help badly and one of the top offensive tackles falling in their lap would have been huge for this team–would have. Chris Grier is now in a precarious position to either reach, fire a longshot with extra capital, or miss on boosting the 2024 O-line. That is unless they can land Jackson Powers Johnson, who has red flags but is a difference maker and as sure-fire an Oline player as you can get in the 2nd Round. So, tonight will be a critical stretch for the 2024 Miami Dolphins!

Depending on how things fall though, Miami could find defensive tackle the best bet with a player like Kris Jenkins. Now, you can make a 100% winning bet with the best pay-per-head that I’d rather the offensive line get taken care of, but the last thing I want is the Phins to reach and miss. I could see a Sweat or Jenkins as a solid move because then at least the defensive line would be addressed totally. This would at least allow Grier to focus on the backend of the draft and in FA as younger players replace older vets.
So, let’s be happy about adding Chop, but let’s also hope we boost this offensive line! Well, anything is possible. If the 49ers can find Purdy in with the last pick of the draft, the Dolphins can find an offensive line gem over the next two days! Right? Here’s to hoping they do! Go Phins!!!
