What the Dolphins are going to do at linebacker and how we feel about it
On Sunday the Miami Dolphins finished the game against the Patriots with all three of their starting linebackers injured, and sidelined for the game. Instead of falling apart on defense, the reserve linebackers of Jenkins, McCain and Trusnik came in and truly played aspiring and passionate football.
During the game it was hard to get a good read on how bad Misi, and Ellerbe’s injuries were. But now it has been revealed that Ellerbe suffered a severe hip injury that will require surgery and cause him to miss the rest of the season. He is one of our most expensive players, but I would also say in regards to his salary he has definitely underperformed. However he is still one of our better linebackers so his loss will surely be felt. Most sports betting software like Ace Pay Per Head Software fans would also probably say that Ellerbe has probably played his last game as a Dolphin. Their is no reason to keep an injured expensive player, that has not played up to expectations.
In regards to Wheeler and Misi, as of yet, there is no definitive time table on when they will return to the lineup. As a result Hickey has already gone ahead and singed 4 year linebacker Kelvin Sheppard a former Bills and Colts player, who has been a starter in this league, but not anything to get excited about.
Trusnik, Jenkins and McCain all played very well, but it will be interesting to see how they do next week against the Bills for an entire 4 quarters. The one positive is that they will have this entire week of practice to get first team defensive reps. Lets face it, the linebacking group was one of the biggest, if not the biggest weak spots on the entire team, and maybe this is a blessing in disguise that the veteran starters got hurt. They have had their chance to prove their worth, and frankly they have not proved it enough, so now the young pups will get their chance, and hopefully they can make the most of it. They sure did prove their toughness on Sunday against a Tom Brady led offense.

The lose will hurt, if nothing more than depth it still hurts. However; it is safe (SAFE) to say that both Ellerbe & Wheeler are in their last seasons with the Miami Dolphins. Can you say extra cap space next year, and whole lot of it!!! That is the positive, the negative is the LBer depth is seriously hampered. Will there be a significant drop off in play? Not so sure there will be, again we go back to the depth, as it is only the second week of a long grueling season. I know we have signed one free agent LBer thus far, is there some more magic from Hickey, can he find another McCain on someones practice squad? Sounds far fetched, but it wouldn’t surprise me a bit after seeing how many rookies, both drafted and undrafted rookies are not only on this team, but contributing as well. We all know how the NFL teams stash players on their practice squads, which teams have a healthy dose of LBers prior to the start of training camps (49ers, Sehawks, Bengals, Rams)? Either way, it is important that our injured players such as Misi, Jordan, and Fede get healthy, because they are going to be a vital part of this team going forward.
And oh yea, the league and NFL PA could possibly be agreeing on a new drug policy any day, which in turn may reduce current suspended players sentences in half. Wouldn’t that be nice, to get Deon Jordan back after the Buffalo game? Even though his position may be unsettled (LBer or D End), either way, we could use him now!
That would be a nice policy change for the Dolphins. When Jordan finally comes back there will not be any excuse now if he cant get on the field with our entire starting linebacking unit hurt. Hickey has definitely done well in his first year
