What to do with Mr Wallace?

sports gambling

The Dolphins have to make a few tough decisions, and one of the biggest ones is going to be what to do with Mike Wallace?

Wallace was Miami’s big free-agent signing in 2013, which was done in order to give Tannehill another weapon on offense and to have a deep threat to open up the field. Tannehill and Wallace have had 2 seasons to work on the deep ball; in the first season they missed around 10-15 times, the second season they still missed, but actually did not even try going deep that many times.

The bottom line is that Tannehill has proved he can be a quality starter in this league, but after three seasons he has failed to improve on his deep ball touch, and it does not look like that is going to improve over the course of his career. Yes, Tannehill and Wallace can practice more on connecting with the deep ball, but it is also not a pass that one can practice 100 times a day, without either hurting one’s arm or burning out the receiver’s lungs. It would be nice if they could get on the same page on the deep ball, however that should not be the make or break in whether they keep Wallace. For the upcoming 2015 season, Wallace is going to count $12.1 million against the cap and $3 million is guaranteed, so they will need to pay that $3 million and count that against the cap even if they do not want to bring him back.

Just on a purely economical standpoint, most free bookie software fans would say it would be financially wise to resign him since it would be silly to pay a player $3 million who will not even be playing on the team. Wallace had a bad end to the season with his altercation with Joe Philbin at the end of the Jets game. Nobody truly knows what was said, but the big question is can Philbin and Wallace see past that incident and be able to continue to work together.

Philbin has a history of parting ways with players that he feels have too much of a personality such as Brandon Marshall, and Vontae Davis, so regardless of finances or performance, if there is still bad blood between the two, then this could be the deciding factor in jettisoning Wallace this off-season. However, the biggest reason why Wallace should be kept on the roster is because of his production. His receptions and yardage slipped a little from the first season, but the most important statistic that he improved in and doubled from his first season was touchdowns.

Wallace had 10 touchdowns, which tied his personal season-high that he achieved back in 2010. Wallace was deadly in the RedZone and was tied for 12th most touchdowns by a receiver in the entire NFL. Tannehill threw 27 touchdowns this season, which means Wallace accounted for 37% of those touchdowns, so purely on a production standpoint, Wallace should be brought back, because Miami’s offense can not afford to lose 10 touchdowns worth of production. So based on money and performance it should be a no brainer that Wallace should be brought back next season. However, the one wild card is that if Phiblin can not move on from the end of the season incident then that could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back in this relationship.

My vote is to keep Wallace at least for one more season, what is the rest of Phins fans thoughts on Wallace?
