The Miami Dolphins OTA’s Begin

Who thought in the 2016 OTA's that Stills would become a foundation player?

Who thought in the 2016 OTA’s that Stills would become a foundation player?

2017 OTA’s starts tomorrow, and the 2017 team takes its first step

It’s that time of year again, the Miami Dolphins are back on the practice field for their annual OTA’s.

There’ll be no live hitting permitted, but 7 on 7, 9 on 7 and 11 on 11 drills are all allowed.

The OTA dates are as follows :

May 23rd to May 25th

May 30th to June 1st

June 5th to June 8th

Mandatory minicamp June 13th to June 15th

There’s no contact allowed, so it’s definitely going to be hard to get a true grasp of whether or not this team appears better than last year.

But some hints will be offered.

Since OTA’s are not mandatory, it will be interesting to see if any players (besides Suh) choose to not actually participate.

Could it be possible that Jarvis Landry shows some frustration due to not getting a new contract, and skips OTA’s?

I don’t think this will be the case. Landry has proven to be a different breed, but it will be interesting to see?

The other big thing to look for is, how mobile does Ryan Tannehill look after recuperating from his knee injury last season?

It’s “only OTA’s”, but the best teams are always geeked up… even in practice

Apparently he will be wearing a knee brace, so a big storyline of the OTA’s will be how–or if–this does affect his play. Also, it will be noteworthy to see if Tannehill’s leadership ability has continued to progress, considering this will be his second year in this offense, and now his 6th year in the league.

It will be hard to get a good read on how our offense and defensive lines look because there is no contact, so the real thing to watch for is how many reps players are getting… and if it increases or decreases as the camp progresses.

Most pay per head review sites will agree that the two most interesting positions to keep an eye are at Guard and Defensive Tackle. Will any of the rookies such as Isaac Asiata, Davon Godchaux, or Vincent Taylor be able to earn themselves an increasing number of reps? And will it continue through mini-camp?

It will be fun to get to see our Fins back on the field and competing again–even if it’s just in touch football.

Lastly, it will be exciting to see our rookies (drafted and undrafted alike) on the field and see if there are any early biters in this class. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ thoughts and expectations for this upcoming OTA’s?
