What To Think Of Foerster As O-Line Coach?

What To Think Of Foerster As O-Line Coach?

Chris Foerster, after turning down an offer for the Colts, as was reported by Fox sports Alex Marvez, was hired with little fan fare to preside over Miami’s most beleaguered unit, the offensive line. The chain of command is now set Gase, Christensen, and now Foerster. As any Fin Fan knows this is a crucial hiring and that as so goes the O-Line, so goes 2016. So who is Chris Foerster?

I totally forgot that he was the Offensive Coordinator of Miami in 2004, after the bye, when the “Stache” took tail. He was one of the members of the staff that lead Miami to a victory over the defending champs, the Patriots, in “The Night That Courage Wore Orange”. Starting in 1982 with Colorado State University till last year with the 49ers, he has 23 years of coaching.

Foerster has had many successful campaigns. He has coached great players in Daniels, Ogden, Christie, Williams, and Mayberry, and he has coached under greats like Dungy, both in his Tampa years and championship years with Colts, Mike Shanahan, and Dennis Green. He has been to many post season games, won a championship in ’03 with the Colts, and even had a somewhat success playing career as a center with the Rams in the late 70-s, early 80’s. He also has had three seasons as an assistant head coach with the Ravens in 05-07.

It doesn’t take a great football wagering fan to see he “seems” to be a good pick up, not an exceptional talent or he would have risen to OC and even head coach, but a good member of the staff nonetheless. If the report is true, it’s nice to see that he chose this post over the Colts and that he see higher value here verses elsewhere. On the down side, his last couple of stints haven’t been as successful has his early years, but this is likely due to the talent disparities. The fact that he is experienced, has played, working with historical talent and coaches at the very least makes him knowledgeable and well traveled. What will he accomplish with Miami’s line is obviously yet to be determined, but the hiring does have upside. Any thoughts on this hiring will be appreciated. Go Fins!!!
