What Was the Point of Trading for Rosen?

Miami made a good deal to get Rosen, but you have to wonder why?

When the Phins traded a second and fifth-round draft pick for Josh Rosen many of the bookie website software providers applauded their decision to take a flier on the young quarterback. So did I… until he was benched.

But, with Rosen and the bench and the fact we will draft a quarterback with one of our top picks in this coming draft, I’d rather of had the picks from the trade instead of Rosen. We could have used those picks on an offensive lineman or defensive end in the last draft.

In fact, Center Eric McCoy was picked by the Saints with Miami’s original 2nd Rd pick. McCoy has been one of the rookies so far. He has solidified the interior of the O-line for Brees and, more impressively, Bridgewater.

Phins missed out on Winovich and McCoy to get Rosen

While we do have the Saints 2nd next year, we could have had Chase Winovich instead of Rosen. One of those two stud players looks much better now than ‘Rosen the backup’ and some unknown next year.

So far, this isn’t a winning trade.

With Fitzpatrick again named the starter, it really doesn’t make any sense to have wasted a blue-chip pick on a player who’s not a key piece to the future. Sure, Rosen may be a cheap, potential backup next year, but the writing is on the wall: Rosen is not going to be a starter in Miami.

If Rosen doesn’t see another start this season wasn’t it a poor buy by Grier and Flores?

Fitzpatrick gives us our best chance?

I understand that we are in reset mode. But, there is a great chance we may not even win a game this year with Fitzpatrick starting… so who cares if he gives us the best chance to win? I’m mean, everything we’ve done since the last offseason was about NOT giving us the best chance to win this year.

The season is already down the drain, so why not let Rosen finish it out to get a more complete evaluation of him? Even if the coaching staff believes they have a full evaluation on him, at least let him play to see if he surprises? Phins need to try and get some compensation for that blue-chip used to get him.

Also, if Rosen flopped this hard, what does that say about this regime’s ability to evaluate a QB?

What happens if Fitzpatrick does win us a couple of games? You know what happens; we end up getting a worse position in the draft. And if everything has been about keeping our eyes to 2020 Draft, then isn’t our ‘best chance’ to have Rosen start?

Rosen panning out or getting the #1 pick is Miami’s ‘best chance’

If Flores isn’t tanking or is trying to camouflage the tank it’s the best move. But, in the most important part of the Dolphins goals, finding a franchise QB, it might end up a loser. And finding franchise quarterback is what it’s all about.
