Where Have All the Phins Good Times Gone?

The Miami Dolphins falling to the Tennesse Titans 31-12 on Prime Time Monday Night football couldn’t have been any more ugly. Titans were a winless team wounded and using their backup quarterback and they looked the far better team. The craziest eye-sore is the Phins have yet to hold a lead in at any point over their 1st four games. Yes, we all know this terrible statistic, but I can’t keep putting it out there because it’s so ludicrous and symptomatic of this regime. Then there was the tirade of Tyreek Hill cast at Mike McDaniel, who had to be nudged out of the frame by Wes Welker. And there was also Chris Grier skulking to the back of the room when the camera was turned on to him. It was some of the worst optics I remember as a 46-year-old Dolphins fan.

This felt like the beginning of the end of this leadership group.

How many will go… and will it actually happen?

I don’t know, but it’s pretty clear given all the assets Grier had at his disposal since 2020 that he is incapable of building a winner and must certainly get his walking papers.

What will become of this season & Beyond?

The graphic to the right tells the tale, it doesn’t account for all the extra picks used to move up and pick up players who didn’t last or picks in trades for Josh Rosen, Brandon Chubb, and Terron Armstead who haven’t met expectations. This whole soup is a disaster of team building and it’s a wonder how we were told for years how well it was going. It’s not to say Grier always missed, he didn’t. Achane, Wilkins, Hunt, Waddle, Holland, and Van Ginkel are some of the good finds. But they are overwhelmed by the failures and wasted picks.

It doesn’t take the best football software to see in the Doctor Gridiron image below how ugly it has been:

This whole thing was built on a house of cards

Below you can see ‘core players’ Austin Jackson and Liam Eichneburg, all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Rounds of them, in action. This is a symbol of how we build on the wrong foundation. This isn’t including Brewer who missed his block or Smythe and Hill. We are a soft finesse team and the rest of the league’s top teams have built tough.

The offensive line isn’t the only problem, but it has been the most glaring flaw for a long time, despite many media types telling us to ‘trust in Butch Barry’ and the ‘I’m sorry Eichenberg and Jackson’ campaign that was a fine bit of propaganda.

We are undisciplined, cannot adapt to our personnel and opposing teams, and continually crumble under pressure. That falls on Mike McDaniel, a very nice guy who isn’t up to the tall task of Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator.

“Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?”

So, here we are… again, stuck with another rebuild next season if we aren’t sold a ‘let’s give them another year’. But, even if we ‘clean house’, can we find the right guy to fill the role of General Manager?

Will the right kind of GM want to work here?

Will we get a soft reboot with an in-house move?

I don’t know… I do know whatever happens, I don’t want to see Chris Grier in the organization next season. I get the weird feeling though he’s a made man. Let’s hope for the best! Go Phins!!!
