Who is Turning Heads For the Dolphins?
Last year’s rookie class for the Miami Dolphins was extremely disappointing, however it is very encouraging that two of the more impressive players in OTAs so far has been from the 2013 rookie class. It is only June, but it is a very good sign that both Dallas Thomas and Dion Jordan look primed and ready to compete for starting positions.
Both players have come into OTAs noticeably bigger and stronger, which proves that they are serious about wanting to improve and play in this league. Not only are both players noticeably bigger, but they both appear 100% healthy, which was something that was a big issue last year for them.
Billy Turner was drafted this year with the hope that he would win the starting left guard position, however at the moment it has been Dallas Thomas who has been getting more reps. Most football gambling fans would say that regardless of which player wins the competition, both players will become better football players from the competition, and the team will be better in the end. Obviously this is only OTAs and the pads and hitting have not begun yet, so it’s still too early to anoint Thomas as the starter and a remarkably improved player, but he is already turning heads with his increased size, which hopefully is a sign of a more improved overall player.
The Dolphins traded up in the 2013 draft to select Dion Jordan, however he was banged up for most of the year, and never had the necessary reps or confidence from the coaching staff to earn more playing time. However, it appears that Jordan’s frustrating rookie season, has motivated him to hit the ground running in his second season. Apparently he has gained about 17 pounds of muscle this off-season, and has not lost any of his freakish athleticism in the process. So far he has been very impressive in OTAs, and even the coaching staff is saying that he is poised for a huge breakout season. If Jordan does push for playing time, that is a very good thing for the Dolphins, because they already have two very good pass rushers in Wake and Vernon, so if Jordan can get on the field it’s because he earned it.
