Who’s Else Is Amped To See Drake and Gesicki?
Drake and Gesicki are the offensive Phins players I’m most amped to see
Will Drake and Gesicki prove to be the stars that we fans are hoping for?
Miami has finished the preseason. Now the focus for the Miami Dolphins is on defeating the Tennessee Titans.
Given their history of slow starts under Gase, they need a win at home in Week 1 this Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. And if they get one, Mike Geskicki and Kenyan Drake will play a big part in the Dolphins getting that “W”.
We sure hope.
While Gesicki is more of an unproven than Drake, I’m looking forward to seeing him just as much.
Since Gesicki’s ‘off the charts’ performance at the combine, I have wondered how he’ll perform on Sundays?
Gase has recently said he’s ‘very excited about these two players in particular for his offense because he believes they pose unique matchup issues for opposing Defenses in the passing game’.
He doesn’t get an argument from me here.
Can this Drake and Gesicki production fantasy move from dream to reality this Sunday?
Drake showed big-play ability at the end of last year and this preseason. It’s just about a fact at this point that on any run play that Drake has the chance to make an explosive play. But if he makes the same chunk plays in the passing game as in the running game, he will be extra special.
I dare say if he can be even off shades of Marshall Faulk, this offense will be special.
Given all of Miami’s weapons, Drake’s ability in the passing game sets the table for a host of miss matches across the board.
Ryan Tannehill is as excited as Gase (and me) about Drake.
Remember, Drake had the Top Performance in 3 out of the 5 most crucial tests for a running back…. not too shabby!
Then there’s Miami’s second offensive ‘freak’, Gesicki.
Gesicki has the build and skill set to be a top end Tight End in the NFL. But it’s more conjecture than fact on if he can put these skills into action during a real game because during the preseason he only had a single catch.
However, Gesicki surprised a lot of the bookie website software providers who were betting he’d be a terrible run blocker when he showed promise in that area in his Preseason action. This offers a very positive sign because success in the NFL is determined by how a player handles his weaknesses.
Despite the improved blocking, they will unleash Gesicki’s true worth in the RedZone. Gase said he held back his full arsenal of RedZone plays during the preseason.
Is this true or just talk? Will Gase prove to be a better play caller now he has the personnel he prefers?
We are just days away from seeing a new leaf or one that’s still rotting on the vine.
If Gase can get this offense into scoring position though, both Drake and Gesicki will have plenty of opportunities thrown their way. Both players present opposing Linebackers matchup issues. And that’s good news for the Dolphins.
The Titans weakness is their passing defense, so there’s a fantastic opportunity for these two players, and the passing offense of the Phins as a whole, to do well.
