Julius Thomas passed his physical and is officially a Dolphin

While injuries have limited Thomas, he has all he tools to be a seam threat

Some say the Miami Dolphins trade for Julius Thomas was a touchdown. Some fans say it was a turn over. I say it was a first down catch with a chance for good YAC.

So far, the disclosure of the contract hasn’t been posted, but the word on the street of sports writers is that it was a big time restructure for a lot less money. If this ends up being the case, cha-ching! And any money saved going into this Free Agency is a very, very good thing—especially given all the holes on the Dolphins roster.

Then there’s the relationship between Adam Gase and Thomas. Gase went after him… to me, that’s a darn good indicator for any Real Bookies Lines. Gase has been pretty much spot with his evaluations and decisions.

I’ll his picks to the track any day.

But, another point is that Thomas also wanted to team up with Gase again so bad that he was willing to forgo millions.

My lovely wife would be hard pressed to keep me, if someone offered me million to trade up… just kindin’ babe.

Without anymore risky analogies, you get my point? Serious cash forgone to play for Gase.

Thomas has the potential to be a solid contributor, if he can stay healthy

Both these guys wanted to make this happen. And Thomas was so willing that he chose not to hit Free Agency (if he were going to be cut) or take less to play for Miami (if Jacksonville was intending on keeping him).

That’s looks like two darn good signs to me.

There are fans that think this is a bust move. I’ll take Gase’s acumen over their’s… and mine too at this point–until proved otherwise.

But, the big advantage here is in the 2017 Draft. The Dolphins may have had too much pressure to draft TE O.J. Howard if he were available. Now, with this trade, there is a plausible reason to go in another direction, if they chose to.

This is critical: freedom in choosing who they want in the draft.

In this draft, with so few picks compared to so many needs, they must have flexibility. To be successful, they must not be forced to chase need. Mike Tannebaum and Co. need to take the right player and not make moves out of desperation.

This trade gives the Dolphins one less hole and that alone, for a 7th round pick, is worth it’s weight in gold. Go Fins!!!
