What’s the ‘real’ value gained from a Miami win this week
As a diehard Dolphins fan, I want the Phins to win every game. However, the reality is that this season is past the crossroads. Yes, a win at home against Buffalo brings the Dolphins to 6-6… and a ‘shot’ at the Playoffs. But, beyond raw hope, does anyone really believe a ‘W’ would mean much after Week 17?
Let’s be real, the Dolphins had their chance last week to beat the 5-5 Colts. They failed to hold onto their 4th quarter lead and lost a ‘Playoff Game’. Now Miami will lose any tiebreakers with the Colts for the Post Season. That’s not good for those who aren’t ‘savvy’.
The Dolphins are facing the Bills at home this Sunday. Sad to say, but Buffalo has the 32nd ranked Offense… and their record is only slightly worse than Miami’s at 4-7. The Bills are going nowhere this season.. and it seems neither are the Dolphins.
Miami is now a week past their crossroads… what now?
However, Buffalo has one thing that Miami doesn’t have–and desperately needs–the promise of a young Quarterback.
Josh Allen hasn’t played great but he’s a Rookie will little talent around him. Like Tannehill, he’s missed a few games this season due to injury. In his 5 games starts this season he’s 3-4 (he’s had two games in relief). The interesting thing is Tannehill is 3-3 and the Dolphins only have one more win with more offensive talent.
This doesn’t send fun-loving chills up your leg. Does it?
Despite poor play by Allen, Tannehill’s wins are on par with his
Allen is the Bills are 1-3 without him. With more experience, the Bills may have finally found their franchise QB. May have isn’t has… but that’s better than Miami’s situation.
Allen has made plenty of plays with his feet. His 258 rushing yards and 4 rushing scores should give the Dolphins defense nightmares this week. This type of style can’t go on forever, but as for this week, Miami’s defense has been quite vulnerable to mobile QBs. In the short run, Allen’s rushing could help Buffalo be respectable this season. It could also give them a shock win over Miami this week.
The Offshore Sportsbook Operations provider like AcePerHead.com on the market actually opened the Dolphins up as a -6 point favorite. But the sharp action actually quickly jumped on the underdog Bills and the line dropped to -4.5 and is now a touch higher at -5.
What would a Dolphins win against the Bills actually achieve?
Sure a win will technically keep them alive in the playoff hunt. But Miami will have to win out to get a Post Season game. And even if they do, where are they in the most crucial position in football? Barring some grand epiphany by Tannehill, or whoever on the roster, the Dolphins are in a hole at QB. The reality is even if they do make the Post Season, a first-round blowout loss will be the result.
I hate being in this position. Every year I root for Miami to win and say ‘screw the higher draft pick’. Then the draft comes and Miami hasn’t won anything… and also misses out on a critical player by a few picks.
So a couple of wins will likely only get them another mid first round pick… again. However, losing our remaining games earns a top 10 pick… and possibly even in the top 5. This could or could not land us a young Franchise QB.
Another season where Miami has little for winning a Post Season game
I’m not saying to root for Miami to lose. We had the 1st overall in 2008 and didn’t come away with a Franchise QB. Picks don’t guarantee anything. But what I am saying is that it sure does suck to be in this predicament… and so desperate that I even consider it.
