Curveball Picks Give Phins Explosive Players

Not many saw the Phins picking Waddle & Phillips

Well, the Miami Dolphins 1st Round picks are in… and I for one didn’t see these players coming. When you are right, you are right, and Jimmy Bourbon was right on expecting the unexpected! Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and edge player Jaelan Phillips bring serious talent, speed, and playmaking ability. But, as a Phins fan, I’m fighting hard to trust the process on both picks despite the huge upside. While things are starting to settle down, last night I felt letdown in a big way!

The potential is sky high!

I totally get that I might just be an ole’, conservative codger when it comes to spending draft capital and slow to fully grasp how much ‘speed kills’ in this pass happy league. That’s why I’m forcing my stubborn brain to see the potential… and there is a ton of that!

It’s clear that Waddle could be the next DeShaun Jackson ( I see Jackson as a better comp than Tyrek) and pave the way for Tua having an excellent sophmore season by opening up the offense. And Phillips brings the best pass rushing ability and most front seven talent to Miami since Cameron Wake! Kid was a sure Top 10 pick sans his injuries.

These are all amazing possibilities that could take the Phins to the next level. Blazing speed and talent bring gamechanging plays and that’s what the modern NFL is all about. The potential both Waddle and Phillips bring is staggering.

There isn’t any doubt about that!

But, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I had concerns. If you want to see a shaken Phins fan this was my post selection reaction here.

Feelings aren’t always valid… but sometimes they are

  1. Was my little heart set too much on Kyle Pitts?
  2. Maybe seeing Devonta Smith take at #10 by the Eagles, who we traded with at a cheaper pirce than Waddle sticks in my craw?
  3. Could the long injury history of Phillips and Miami’s bad luck be a bad brew?
  4. Did Mac Jones falling to the patient Patriots signal a harbinger of things to come?

After a small write up on how tough it is to land quality receviers, I did a much deeper historical dive…

… Maybe, the rusults made to me too nervous to appreciate the Waddle pick?

Flores, Grier, and Allen know more that you!

In the end, I’m going to trust the process. I’ve been talking up how great Marvin Allen is since the day he was hired. He did wonders for the Chiefs… I have to trust his talent and wisdom.

I wanted the Phins to draft elite players and I received my wish! Miami certainly drafted elite talent. Did they over pay? Were Grier and Flores hoping for Pitts or Chase to fall? Was the roll of the dice on such a highly injured player like Phillips a bad bet with the best bookie services?

No one knows. No one!

We Phins fans must now wait and see how it all plays out! With plenty of quality picks left, we can only wait and see how it goes… and hope for the best. Everthing Miami has done has been to their own tune. So far, it’s been a very good ride. Hope it’s all for the best until proven otherwise, I say. Go Phins!!!
