Igbinoghene to Shine First of Phins Top Picks?

1st Round pick Noah Igbinoghene has flashed early in Training Camp

The Miami Dolphins are entering the 2020 Season boasting an unprecedented 3 first-round picks entering their Training Camp. All these blue-chip rookies coming in at once brings a huge advantage to the franchise… if they pan out. Unfortunately, until they live up to their draft status there’s a ton of pressure on the franchise. At this stage though, they offer a lot of hope to the Phins fanbase, especially CB Noah Igbinoghene who is looking good early.

Which 1st Round pick will perform first?

The fans are obviously the most excited about Tua. But, it appears that he won’t start this season and possibly won’t even play much either. There’s no reason to rush him into action this season until he’s 100% healthy and much further along in his understanding of the offense. Let’s remember that the great Tom Brady took a year to maturate before he started and even the great Dan Marino didn’t start until Week 6. So, you can bet with the best pay per head review sites that it’s no problem if we don’t see Tua on the field until 2021.

The Dolphins’ second 1st Round pick was tackle Austin Jackson. Despite his high draft statue, most analysts believe Jackson needs time to grow into a true Left Tackle. Even then, this pick looks to be a roll of the dice on successful. Jackson should get plenty of opportunities for a baptism by fire, so by season’s end fans will have a much better idea which direction his career is trending.

With Howard still recovering, CB Noah Igbinoghene is in the spotlight

Cornerback Noah Igbinoghene is the last of the 2020 1st Round picks. As with Jackson, there was talk that he was a reach. Although, most analysts liked the Igbinoghene pick, but considered him taken a little high because he was raw. But, early indications from Training Camp is Igbinoghene might very well be the most productive of the three players this season.

With Xavien Howard still recovering from his knee injury, the Phins are preparing to be without him at the start of the season. This leaves a huge hole at CB.

Sure, Byron Jones will be the #1 CB Howard’s absence. But, the #2 spot opposite Jones is up for grabs with Igbinoghene and 2nd-year man Nik Needham battling for the spot.

Reports this early get a grain of salt, BUT…

… the info leaking out from practice is that Igbo has been very active. He even batted down a few balls while defending Parker. Going against Parker every day at practice is going to be the best thing for Igbo’s progression. Whether Parker picks up from where he left off last year or not, Parker is he is one of the better high point catching receivers in the game. So, Igbo winning his fair share of contested throws is an indication of good things to come.

Flores personally visited the defensive draft prospects for Auburn, so as a defensive coach and former scout, the Igbo selection screamed ‘this is a Brian Flores pick’.

Clearly, Flores took a strong liking to Igbo since he was the only defensive pick by the Phins in the 1st Round. Brian Flores knows exactly the type of player he covets at cornerback for his scheme… and Igbo checked off all the boxes. So by this time next year ‘Igbo the reach’ may be renamed ‘Igbo the steal’!
