Xavien Howard Won’t Be Suspended

Xavien Howard is a cornerstone of the Flores regime

Miami Dolphins star cornerback Xavien Howard now has a clear path to the 2020 Season. As per Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post, the NFL has decided not to suspend Howard for the domestic battery charge he received early in the offseason.

Frankly, I’m surprised he didn’t even get a slap on the wrist. I fully expected he’d receive some disciplinary action through the personal conduct policy even without a conviction. But, with the charges dropped by prosecutors, it seems the NFL had little legal grounds to punish him. And his fiancee said, “it was a situation that got out of hand” and she doesn’t fear for her safety. This probably went a long way with the league.

Can Howard return to his 2017 form?

Now the only obstacle for Howard to get back to his 2017 form is fully recovering from his offseason knee surgery. This won’t be guaranteed though because Howard has only played one full season in his 4-year career. All of his 22 missed Regular Season Games have been because of a knee injury.

Still, this appears to be the most invasive surgery to fix the issue yet, so maybe Howard will finally get past his knee issues. But the better bet with the best pay per head software like www.AcePerHead.com is that Miami and Howard are just hoping the knee issues will be more manageable going to forward thanks to this aggressive treatment.

Miami has spent a ton on corners over the last few years… 2020 needs to see a payoff

The Phins starting corners this year could be special if newly signed Byron Jones can repeat his 2019 PFF grade of 76.1 and Howard can get near his 2017 PFF grade of 77.3. Nik Needham, 1st round pick rookie Noah Igbinoghene, and Eric Rowe offer quality depth. The whole package has the potential to be the most productive secondary Miami has had in years. The wildcards though are can one of them be a quality nickel corner and can Howard stay healthy?

Miami has spent so much in the way of draft picks and money to get this secondary right since they drafted Howard in the 2nd Round of the 2016 Draft. Will the Phins finally see some real dividends from this investment in 2020? Go Phins!!!

Welcome home Mr. Howard! I hope we have a season for you to play in. If not, stay out of trouble and be well!

We’ll see… on both accounts. I hope for him and his family that this is a turning point.
