Miami Franchise at Their Biggest Crossroad

Most of this decade rests on what Miami does next!

Love him or hate him: Brian Flores is gone and never returning. Love them or hate them: Steven Ross is the owner and Chris Grier is running the show with more power than when he took over ‘full’ control three years ago. This is a hard reality and nothing will change this fact no matter how you feel!

Another fact is the Miami Dolphins are once AGAIN looking for a new Head Coach…

…and the fate of most of this decade will rest on whoever Ross and Grier choose.

No excuses for a lack of success this time around will cut it

Whoever is hired to be Head Coach will be the 4th coach hired by Ross and 2nd (and add half for Gase) hired by Grier. I’d say that’s plenty of chances considering that Philbin was queasy, Gase nuts, and Flores a mild sociopath… according to sources. These were spectacular strikeouts. So, nothing short of amazing will cut it this time around. Right? Or is the 5th time the charm?

It’s 2022, so if you figure a three-trial for the new coach, then it could be 2025 before we take another swing at a new HC if this one doesn’t work out. Then, even if the next coach after this one is the right guy, it will take 1 to 2 years to get the team right, so we could be looking at 2027-2028 as the earliest chance to finally field a winner– if this next HC flops.

I don’t need to tell you long-suffering Phins fans how miserable this timeline would be.

This is why the Dolphins must stick the landing hard on this one. Even an above-average job by the next HC won’t be good enough. Miami must reach the playoffs by 2024 at the latest and then have sustained success going forward. Now, I’m not demanding a Super Bowl win by this next staff (baby steps, baby steps), but a one-year mulligan followed by post-season relevance is the absolute floor for this next Head Coach… no ifs, and, or buts!

I don’t like Chris Grier in the least, but…

…I always hold onto the belief that I can be wrong. My wife sure holds onto that belief. So, whether by wisdom or luck, Grier and Ross could end up making the right choice, even if they were the culpable party in this break up with Flores. Just win baby and everything else will be forgotten. Sad, but ohhhhhh so true.

I’ve been a Phins fan since 1978… it sure does seem like forever since the Miami Dolphins football team wasn’t a dysfunctional mess. But, I’ll never quit on the team and never give up hope that things can finally turn in the right direction. I sure do hope I’m sure do hope Ross and Grier prove me wrong on this one. You can bet the house with the best PPH services that I would much prefer eating a ton of crow rather than wait another decade for the Miami Dolphins to find success. Go Phins!!!

Back in 1972 Joe Thomas left the Dolphins because Joe Robby was cheap. Bobby Beathard got the reins for a year. In that year, Shula stabbed Bobby in the back and forced him to look elsewhere. Bobby went to the team formerly called the Redskins. Shula hired his genius son, and this started to unravel. Since then, the Dolphins have had a slow spiral into the cellar. Now, under Steven Ross we have landed on the cellar floor and our wheels are stuck in the mud. If Ross is smart (which he is not) he would hire Mike Maycock and fire Grier. Ross would then listen and allow Maycock to hire someone he can work with (not against) for the head coaching job. A good GM and coach could assemble a playoffs caliber team in two years; just like the Patriots have done.

I don’t think Ross will do that though. Nope, Ross will hire someone desperate for a head coaching job. Someone who won’t express his own opinion. Someone who is politically correct. Ross will try to use marketing to fill the stands rather than winning games. Tua will reign and the Jets will become the third best team in the weak AFC-East! Anyone stupid enough to buy tickets and spend 4 hours on Sunday eating fried food and drinking overpriced beverages deserves to be disappointed when Ross repeats this model in a couple of more years.

We all need to boycott attending games. Okay, you immature fans that still love your Jets or your Bills even though you have lived down here for 29 years – you can go see your childhood dream team! wear those Gang Green outfits and scream “GO BILLS!”

“Back in 1972 Joe Thomas left the Dolphins because Joe Robby was cheap. Bobby Beathard got the reins for a year. In that year, Shula stabbed Bobby in the back and forced him to look elsewhere. ” I didn’t know Shula stabbed him in the back… would love to hear that story. I’ll research it.
I’m really finding this the lowest point as a Dolphins fan that I can remember… even hard to write articles this season. The problems goes beyond the players… even if Flores is all they said he was it’s beyond that… Ross has Bruce Biel in line of succession already. He’s Ross 2.0… Ross and Grier will be here for a long time and to me that means I doubt anything substantial will come in possibly my lifetime. I really mean that. This kinda’ takes the hope out of next season we’ll figure it out.Terrible… hope I’m wrong.
