Phins Have ‘Whip It Out’ Wednesday

Phins have an epic 24 hours Free Agency splurge

It’s official the Miami Dolphins are whipping out the check book today and going all in this free agency period and on their QB Tua!  The Phins were very active singing their own Free Agents and adding other players, but on Wednesday they made THE huge move of Free Agency. Miami signed started by signing the best Tackle in the free agency market in Terron Armstead…

…and then shocked the NFL world and pulled off a blockbuster trade for one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the game in Tyreek Hill.

Phins have loaded up to make waves in 2022

Signing Armstead was a major upgrade for their Offensive line. He is easily the best O-Lineman on the roster and fills the biggest hole on the roster. The Dolphins gave Armstead a 5 year contract for $75 million, which can hit as high as $87.5 million with bonus incentives. If this was the only move of the day, it would still be a huge boost to Tua and win for the Dolphins.

However, out of left field the Dolphins pulled off a blockbuster trade for Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill, who signed him to a 4 year contract extension worth $120 million and $72 million guaranteed. That’s roughly $200 million spent today on two players in one day! Now, both are Pro Bowl studs, so there was bang for Ross’s buck!

But, their was also a price for Hill that went beyond money. Miami traded 5 draft picks to acquire Hill’s services! Miami sent our 1st, 2nd and 4th round pick of 2022, and our 4th and 6th round pick of 2023 to make the trade happen.

It sounds like a lot… however, our first round pick was #29 at the end of the first round, and there would be no player comparable to Hill that we can draft at that position. The 2nd and 4th round are unfortunate, but with all the moves Miami has made this offseason, most of the major needs were filled. The picks in 2023 are basically late round picks that are most likely inconsequential.

Hill and Waddle, Waddle and Hill

Hill is easily one of the best and fastest receivers in the game and has made the Pro Bowl in each of his 6 seasons in the NFL. Adding him to a Dolphins Wide Receiver core that has Waddle, Parker, Williams, and Cedrick Wilson and the offensive production in the passing game could be off the charts. Waddle and Hill on the field at the same time is going to be a nightmare for defenses, and this deep threat will immediately boost the running game.

Defenses won’t be able to stack the box and stuff our running attack because now they have to worry about defending two of the fastest wide receivers in football! Combined with the fact Miami added running backs this offseason and new Coach Mike McDaniel specializes in the running game, Miami is not going to shy away from running the ball down defenses throats! Throw in some running plays for Hill and Waddle and this offense has the potential to be very dangerous.

Opposing teams will have to pick their poison to swallow because there isn’t one part of the field that the Dolphins offense can’t wreck a defense.

Tua has everything he needs to prove he is a franchise QB

In addition, it shows the Dolphins have gone all in to do whatever it takes to surround Tua with the best players to help him reach his full potential. If Tua can’t make the next step this season, it’s all on him. However, this kid has been a winner his entire football career, these could be the pieces that get the Dolphins and Tua to the playoffs for years to come. And if Tua doesn’t, we can get a new QB in 2023 with our two 1st Round picks and then whoever that step into a potentially loaded offense.

Before this trade was announced the Dolphins were +6000 to win the Super Bowl and +600 to win the AFC East. Now after the trade the best price per head software companies have the Dolphins odds to win the Super Bowl at +3500, and odds to win the AFC east at +300. Those are some decent moves in price, and shows that Vegas sees the potential with these moves!
