His velocity could very well pick up this offseason, and then, he’d be fine. LA will be tough with the new QB… not sure about the Chiefs though. Reid’s other son is in BIG trouble and that’s a distraction and their OL is in shambles. Fins must nail some stars though… we do well in the back end and solid up front… we need stars. No, he isn’t a great route runner, Van… I’d disagree on the double team part too. Gesicki and Parker worked well together to break doubles. Tua was a rookie coming off a serious injury… this is legit excuses for a lot of the ugly was saw in Tua in 2020. But, we can only go by what we saw and drop in a tad of projections based on growth and healing. Tua struggled a ton. The first to get blamed was Gailey and then the receivers. Really,. the lack of a run game was a legit excuse and receivers being injured another. Tua couldn’t handle more from Gailey. Gailey didn’t sabotage him or was a bad OC. The receivers were enough for Fitz to be the 6th best Qb at one point… but, he did have a full year to build chemistry with them and is a long vet. Still, I love Tua the man and desperately want Tua the football player to succeed, but there is this protection of him from fans, media, and it seems the team that is wanton. They tried this bubble wrap with Tannehill and it didn’t work. NFL QBs must overcome and not be given preferential treatment. Tua is a strong young man of faith and character. If he has the physical tools to make it his brains and mental makeup is enough for him to find his way…. but, all this protection and frankly, coddling isn’t going to change one thing about his on-the-field performance. I believe the kid needs a lot of growth in his physical tools and mental processing… BUT, I also believe he has the right stuff to overcome… if his body is right. His arm was downright weak in 2020. Understandable, but a fact. If his velocity picks up and gets closer (or hopefully better) than his college arm, he’ll be fine in a couple of seasons. If it doesn’t, no amount of coddling will make him succeed. For me, if I see increased velocity on his ball in camp… we are off to the races. If not, I will be very, very, nervous.
