Harbaugh Should Be In Play for Phins?

Harbaugh interviewed with the Vikings, so he’s at least considering an NFL return

Jimmy Bourbon wrote in his last article that the Miami Dolphins should “go for broke” to get Jim Harbaugh. I chuckled a bit and thought it was pie in the sky talk. But, news that Harbaugh had an interview with the Minnesota Vikings now has me doing an about-face on the pie in the sky talk.

Vegas Raiders were the perfect place for Harbaugh, but Josh McDaniels took that job and with only 5 teams left in the mix for Harbaugh’s services, the Dolphins are legit contenders…

… at least, Phins fans should hope Miami is!

The Saints, Jaguars, Vikings, Texans, and Dolphins are the last on the list of 9 teams that were looking for new head coaches. Saints have a ton of talent, but no quarterback. Jags have a young QB, but not much talent. Vikings have a quality QB, who isn’t elite and has some talent, but need to be trim because of the cap. Texans are a mess. You’d figure the Dolphins being tied with the Saints as the Top 2 destinations left would be a good join with the best pay per head is. But, are they?

Certainly, Harbaugh should and would choose the Phins or at the very least interview with the team?

Steven Ross and Chris Grier have taken a load of the heat of late… especially here at Phinsnews. But, if they land Harbaugh, they’ll have the last laugh and Phins fans might finally get their best chance at a winning Dolphins team.

What if he doesn’t choose Miami or even interview? What does that say about the perception of the Dolphins from those around the league?

The PR hit to Ross and the Dolphins will be huge and it make them nailing whoever they pick even more critical—as if that were possible. If Ross is snubbed by Harbaugh and their pick for head coach flops, the worst fears of Phins fans will be cemented.

Dysfunctional or not!!

Ross fired Brian Flores and retained Chris Grier. If the moves that follow equal Flores, then the decision is understandable. If the next hire outperforms Flores then give Ross a standing ovation. But, if the choice Ross makes proves to be one more blunder, then the only conclusion is the heart of the Dolphins’ failures rests with the owner. Remember, Ross is stepping in again to take a strong stance on who the Dolphins pick as the next HC. So, whether this road leads to good or bad, Ross gets all the credit or blame. Let’s hope for the best because screwing this hire up will mean bad things are coming for the Dolphins for a long time. Go Phins!!!
