Will Phins Fans Get ‘Déjà Vu’ In Week 2?

Allen will try to repeat Cam’s success against the Phins

It doesn’t get any easier for the Dolphins as they prepare to host the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Amazingly, the Phins have actually played worse against the Bills than the Patriots over the last few years. Over the last 6 games, Miami has been roughed up in most of them going 1-5. If Miami wants to make a real statement then they need to flip the script on recent history.

Phins need to prove they can beat the Bills

The Bills are riding in high off a beat down of the anemic Jets. You can bet they are licking their chops to knock off Miami and move the Bills to a quick 2-0 record both on the season and in the AFC East. The Patriots gashed Miami for over 200 yards on the ground last week and continued the trend of the Phins getting abused by running QBs.

You know the gameplan is to have Josh Allen do the same when he comes to town.

Allen has chewed up the Phins defense with his legs in each of their 4 previous matchups. The Best Pay Per Head Reviews in the world are betting history won’t change this weekend. The Dolphins are a home dog at +6, so it will be interesting to see if they clean up their play and bounce back after the loss.

The Patriots ripped a page from the playbook the Bills have used over the last three seasons of forcing Miami to stop the run game. The Dolphins must come up with a better game plan against a running QB. After all these years, I still don’t understand why they don’t just use a Spy? Wouldn’t dedicating a player to shadow the QB–no matter what he does–be wise? In man coverage, one player can play man on the QB as a spy. Plenty of teams successfully use this method. Given how Allen’s main strength is running, doesn’t it makes sense to spy him?

Miami needs to generate offense… and fast

On offense, Phins first must protect the football. Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions last week! That can’t happen again. Even though Fitzpatrick wasn’t responsible for all the turnovers, three picks is never a good recipe for victory.

One good sign was that the Dolphins O-Line seemed okay last week. This week they will be tested against a very good Defensive Line in the Buffalo Bills. Can the new O-line follow up Week 1 with another solid performance? The name of the game is consistency…

… And nothing brings consistency in football like a good O-line.

Final keys to victory this week

Also, there DeVante Parker’s injury. His health is of critical importance to the offense, so this is something to monitor closely. Parker is without a doubt our best receiver and was having a good game last week… until an injury forced him out of the game. Our receiving group was clearly not the same without his presence. If he misses this week too it would be a major blow.

Sorry folks, I think it’s pretty much a given that he’ll be very limited in or miss this game because hamstrings are notoriously slow healers. So, unfortunately, I feel like the Dolphins will come up short in this game. But, I do expect Miami to make it a game into the fourth quarter. Hopefully, I’m wrong.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ thoughts on the Phins’ chances of winning this week against the Bills?

    Jimmy,

I sincerely hope you are wrong! This team can not afford to go 0-2 in our division in just two weeks! Then we travel on a short week of Jacksonville. You know just how bad we have been on National TV over the past several years! Then home against Seattle. We could very well be looking at 0-4! OUCH! Say good-bye to any potential playoff run, winning record, even being 500! We have the talent to win now! Guys and coaching need to step up/man-up and take charge of this season before it gets away from us! All four of our first 4 games are winnable. Need to go at least 2-2.

Just did an article on the convo, Stephen. i think Phins win. All of the Bills LBs are out this week. We don’t win this week and the sky is falling…
