DING-DONG, The Dolphins Tank is Dead!

The Dolphins win was a ‘big one’ on many fronts

Wasn’t that an ‘oh-so-sweet’ victory against the New York Jets and Adam Gase yesterday? First, the weight of an ‘anti-perfect’ season is off fans’ minds, AND the talk of Dolphins ‘tanking’ is now dead. This was the biggest joy for me. Flores had had me at ‘hello’ and I vehemently rejected that Flores was tanking…

… Until that 2-point conversion against the Skins. I admit, I was as a school-girl hearing a rumor about the infidelity of their boyfriend and taking them for truth. Feeling jilted and heartbroken, I lashed out in my article “Brian Flores Mastering “The Art of the Tank”.

The tank is dead and plenty of sports journos need to admit they were wrong

And while the eight-man blitz called against the Steelers helped reinforce these rumors, this win against a terrible team proves that these ‘odd’ calls were just poor ones and not ‘Belichickian Machinations’. I can live with mistakes from a rookie Head Coach and not having the top pick in this draft, but I can’t stomach a man who proclaims himself honorable and lies.

Yes, having the top pick in the draft is a powerful spot. Still, I rather have a ‘stand-up’ guy as a coach and not a ‘lily-liver’. We tried that with Philbin and Gase and I couldn’t stomach another regime like that.

Mia Culpa time:

I know 100% Brian Flores has never read an article of mine and couldn’t give a whit what I think or say, but right is right: “I was wrong, coach, I apologize”.

Unfortunately, what I’m seeing from many sport media types is they are doubling down on the Dolphins ‘tank’ after the win.

A person reveals more about who they are in defeat than they do in victory.

Rich Eisen is nearly unhinged over his hatred of the Phins… love it

I do believe Eisen is a Jets fan, so I sorta’ get it… if he is. Still, this level of vitriolic animous is kinda’ creepy. No? What happened to all the ESPN talking heads who were so fun and likely two decades earlier? You can bet with the pay per head services like AcePerHead.com that it’s part of why ESPN is dying.

Humiliating Gase made this 1st win extra special

Now, seeing Adam Gase beaten by a stripped-down Phins team against his overpriced and under coached Jets was the cherry on top. The Jets 3rd Overall pick at QB looked lost and they played undisciplined. The expectation was that Gase would run up the score. Instead, he proved why his firing was justified.

And the fallout for him and the Jets that has followed the loss is a gift that keeps on giving.

Give, baby, give!

Miami is 1-7, but they are the most disciplined team in the NFL

On the other hand, Flores has a Phins team that’s the most disciplined in the league with the fewest penalties (45) and fewest penalty yards (370). Yes, Philbust had a very disciplined team too, but you can see the players love Flores and don’t quit despite severe adversity. While it does take more than discipline and love to be a great team, this the right foundation to build on.

Look at how Tony Sparano kept a flawed team respectable with these traits!

Yes, some fans are disappointed about maybe losing out on the #1 Pick

I get the desire to have the top pick in the draft. Jimmy Bourbon wants that pick so bad he can taste it. But, look at the Jets, Browns, and Colts. They spent very high picks on QBs and are either struggling with them or that QB is no longer on the team. Conversely, the Seahawks, Chiefs, Ravens, Patriots, Steelers, Bills, Texans, Raiders, Cowboys, Packers,Vikes, and Panthers are all succeeding with QBs found out of the Top 5 picks.

Yes, the #1 Overall pick gives you complete control, but it doesn’t determine if you find the right QB or have a successful team.

So, here we are with 8 games left and a 1-7 record. At least we are improving, disciplined, have a ton of draft picks, and have a coach that you can respect and doesn’t tank! I haven’t broken down tape since the Chargers game… looking forward to getting back into the groove. Go Phins!!!

I’ve never had the “tank for Tua ” notion , I have the “believe in Burrow’s ” attitude

I’ve liked Burrow for a bit too… this game between Tua and Burrow will be very interesting and it could be the first of a two-part battle.
