Phins HC Front Runner: Mike McDaniel

Mike McDaniel looks to all but be the Dolphins news HC

As other teams have locked down their next new head coach such as the New York Giants signing Brian Daboll and Vegas Raiders Josh McDaniel’s, the Dolphins are ‘still patiently’ going through their options. Jim Harbaugh went back the Michigan, Pederson the Jags, and no Jim Caldwell interview planned. So, it looks like Ross is going green again with Kellen Moore or Mike McDaniel.

HC McDaniel… All but Done

The pay per head sites are betting the job is already all but been given to 49ers Offensive Coordinator Mike McDaniel, who spent three years as the 49ers run game coordinator. The 49ers even hired Anthony Lynn in what appears to be the imminent hiring of McDaniel.

This past season McDaniel was made the offensive coordinator. He has done a terrific job with Deebo Samuel and one would imagine he can utilize Waddle in similar ways and help to really tap into his incredible speed that this past coaching unit was unable to truly unleash.

In addition, McDaniel is clearly an offensive minded coach, which might be a refreshing change for Miami because they have definitely struggled on the offensive side of the ball the last 3 seasons under Flores.  This could be exactly what Tua needs! However, Tua will need to learn a completely new offense that’s hopefully tailored to his strengths.  Considering Miami’s offense looked lost in the beginning of the season and never truly clicked, having an offensive guru like McDaniel could be just what that doctor ordered to get that side of the ball playing better and more consistently.

Same ole’ or what the doctor ordered

There has also been talk that Miami wants to keep most of their defensive coaches and they are looking for a head coach that would agree to this. Miami’s defense did play extremely well in the second half of the season. However, there are conflicting reports if this was due to Boyer or Flores being more involved in the defensive play calling. Even though it is not normal to hire a new head coach and then force coordinators on him, I wouldn’t mind keeping Boyer and keeping things the same on that side of the ball.

So, if that is true and McDaniel is open to keeping the Defensive coaches and scheme around, this might be a good fit for Miami. They can totally revamp the offensive playbook, which most Miami Dolphins News fans wouldn’t mind, but at the same time keep that same aggressive mind set on defense in place.

With Kellen Moore interviewing today, Phins should secure their next head coach in a couple of days.  Maybe with a lot of luck, things can finally work out for Miami.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about McDaniel as Miami’s next head coach?

I write in all the time with the different articles on Phins News and have stated that I’ve been a fan ever since their inception. I know the article is about the hiring of the new H.C. but it’s hard to concentrate on that with all the stuff that has surrounded our organization this past week. It’s just hard to get past the thought of Ross offering the coach 100k to lose games “if this is true” which I believe it is. I know there will have to be proof but why would Flores go on tv with his two attorneys to state this if it’s not the truth. So, McDaniel must be a yes man if he takes the job but Ross will need to be stripped of the team if this all turns out to be true. Why is always our once proud Miami Dolphins organization in the news for the wrong reasons? Why?

Randy… I’m struggling hard to even write about the Phins because I’m so low and disgusted. Losing games and being incompetent is one thing… Ross and Grier are treacherous worms and that’s something else. I despise the two and likely McDaniel is what you say he is. I wouldn’t take the job… but the money is huge. I do like his potential in a vaccuum…but, this could be an epic disaster as well… I wouldn’t put it past Ross and Grier to sink this kid so they can get their top pick and then hire someone else on 2 years. My only hope is the two of them and Garfunkel get their due and are totally humilited… in my dream scenario… the fed get involved over tampering and get his legal due as well… I just hope the his whole rotten house here gets shown the door at least… McDaniel will be an epic disaster if they can’t find him a OL… all his scheme’s will do zip… and since Grier is a disaster at finding OLs I think this could be terrible… i do see the potential… but, Ross and Grier had the right guy and did everything they could to destroy him… We are the worst franchise in the league because we have scum as an owner and GM.

I think what they did to Coach Brian was despicable. How in the hell can you pay someone supposedly $100K per game to lose for the sake of draft picks then fire him for not winning enough games? This whole thing stinks. I gave up the nfl four years ago and glad of it, my head would be exploding over this and many other ridiculous events . I wanted football not goodell’s idiotic views on race.

Beyond despicable… I’m so angry and frustrated and struggling to even write articles after the screw job… my only hope is to see those two and Garfunkle get their due at some point… if only. Flores was screwed by the owner and GM and then Belichick and now the league… sad. He wasn’t a perfect person… no one is… but he had character and a code and was the best HC we had since Shula. Sucks, brothers… Ross and Grier are such worms…

This past weeks revelations should repulse anyone with any standard regarding race relations, sportsmanship or honesty. The Dolphins should change the team name to Candyland. Betraying players and fans and offering coaches bonuses to throw games is u ethical and criminal. Every player who ever accused owners of acting like plantation slave owners was correct. Ticket holders should sue. Ross should be forced to sell the team.
Anyone taking this job is desperate. They must know the boss will betray them without a second thought. The Sun Sentinel pointed out that the 49er coach’s dad is mixed race. The paper thinks that this qualifies the man as a head coach. PATHETIC!

Like Flores… but to a lesser degree… I se McDaniel as a guy of potential. Flores proved he was the goods in the heat of sabotage and trial. McDaniel is smart… but doesn’t has less exp than Flores at the higher levels and doesn’t have a presence. He’s now the HC… We really only had a choice between Vance, Moore and McDaniel… sad collection considering we fired Flores. We are screwed… and I’m struggling to even write about them. NFL black balled Flores…. really… not like Kap. He was screwed by the owner and GM and then Bellicick and now the league… If we had a functional franchise, McDaniel might find his way to something. BUT, we aren’t… without a Oline of even below avg level, all his bright ideas and desire to run the ball will collapse in a heap of dust. I give him respect as the new HC and if they can finally build a OL, then he might get his footing and find his way. But, I’ betting Ross gets booted, Phins lose picks, the defense regresses and we don’t find a OL… BUT, I’ll hold out hope and eval as things come. In my 42 years as a Phins fan, I’ve never had this low of a morale…. talk me off the fence… keep trying to type, but I get dusgusted… not so much in his hire as with everything else.
